Excited to speak @OpenSourceNorth on May 29! π
Levi McCormick & I are teaming up to talk: "#MultiCloud Without the Marketing." No fluff, just real-world arch we use at @Jamf to manage #AWS, #Azure, & #GCP.
See you in May!

Thank you to the University of St. Thomas for hosting #osn2025! We love being on this beautiful campus every year.
And an extra special thank you to Marguerite von Duerckheim and Rebecca Chinn for your continued support!
Congratulations to all of the MacBook Pro winners at #osn2025!
Thank you to everyone who participated in the bingo!
(One winner not pictured)
We want to extend a huge thank you to all 51 of our sponsors who helped make OSN happen! From Platinum to Bronze, your support keeps Minnesota's open source community thriving. #osn2025
Smiling for a selfie-style photo with my partner; it is sunny and we are both wearing lanyards from the open source north conference we were attending
Itβs been a minute since we last attended a tech conference together (deeply extroverted + deeply introverted tech couple over here)!
#osn2025 was more fun with you there, @rmgebhardt.bsky.social π
Kind of a postscript: make sure your accessibility features cover THE WHOLE APP. Don't drop the ball on the cancel page or the complete order page. #osn2025
WeCo has a YouTube channel and will be making this presentation/discussion public in the future. Check it out. #osn2025
Ask users with disabilities what they need! Listen to feedback! They are a valuable source of information. #osn2025
"Learning is the biggest missed opportunity." Learn how to make your apps accessible. #osn2025
Developers. Projects. START ACCESSIBLY. #osn2025
OMG Wayland broke Linux's screen reader? Argh. #osn2025
Calling out open source developers for trying to rush to a working project: don't let accessibility be the last phase to your project, or something that gets "fixed" later. #osn2025
Much-mentioned app: NVDA (open source screen reader). Note to self: It's Windows-based, wonder if it works w/Crossover? #osn2025
"Autonomy is accessibility." #osn2025
Bluesky decided to be uncooperative but I'm back for my last session which about accessibility. WeCo is a group of digital technologists who live with disabilities. Really cool to hear from folks who actually use the technology available while working on it. #osn2025
Flip side: Make your feedback "nutritious." Don't give empty positive feedback on the regular if there's actually uncomfy stuff that should be addressed. #osn2025
Be aware of only listening to the feedback you want to hear. For sure. #osn2025
You can't change a person's context, but you can work to show up in support of their individual context. #osn2025
Key points for good feedback: think about what, why, and how. #osn2025
Models need feedback loops to get things correct. Same for people - feedback needs to be honest in order to affect change. #osn2025
It's suggested that "feedback" has evolved to become less about productivity and more about person growth/investment in individuals. ...Really? Skeptical. #osn2025
"Good" feedback: positive intent, action plan, growth outcome, mentor(ship). #osn2025
Next talk! Feedback Bites, about effective communication. I always say that QA's primary function is that of a liaison, so yeah. Always looking to communicate better. ππ» #osn2025
"Page" object model vs "page object" model. Work with pieces instead of the whole - keep things lean and easy to fix/update. #osn2025
ALSO working with more generic structures makes your test suites portable between projects. Smart. #osn2025
Creating test abstracts pre-code (more legible) allows manual walk-through first, helps you know you're hitting all the steps, methods make more sense. #osn2025
Organizing at the start hopefully results in more tidy/organized test suites. Don't just code on the fly! Have a plan! #osn2025
These choices help with keeping things consistent amongst testers. No "well, it works on MY machine..." #osn2025
Me standing in front of a presented slide deck with the title slide that reads βwait.. are passwords like skinny jeans now?β
Aaaand first talk in ~6 years done!
Passwords are kinda like skinny jeans: vintage with mixed-consensus on comfort.
Skinny jeans do not have serious digital privacy concerns thoughβ¦
Had a blast diving into passkeys this morning at #osn2025 and ready to be an attendee for the rest of the day!
Checklist: Testing tool, language, dependency manager, libraries, IDE tooling. #osn2025
