Batting Averages [Comic, Page 1] - Calvin Dominic (OC) informs his coworker Accel (OC) about his decision to take up her proposal to join her baseball team. Accel thanks him...which then prompts him to launch into his request in requiring her team to address him in his full name (rather his abbreviated name of "C.D."); on his presumption that he would pretty much be carrying the team on his back as a result of getting involved. All done in the most self-absorbed, purple prose-filled way he can. He would had continued further to Accel's total exhaustion, if not for the interjection of Gumm (OC), who intentionally gets his name wrong ("Compact Disc Tray") and uses it as a means to poke through his self-aggrandizing.
Batting Averages [Comic, Page 2] - Calvin tries to brush off Gumm's snipe at his ego, by pretending she was incorrectly referring to his baseball bat as plastic, followed by him "clarifying" about the bat being made of aluminum and boasting about how well its properties suit him. All this does however is let Gumm get another swipe at him by pointing out that aluminum bats are used by Little League baseball players... (*cough* "...and baseball amateurs.") The last one really gets under Calvin's skin as he reacts with offense...only for Gumm to delightfully respond to his choice of words (him "begging" for her "pardon"). All Calvin can do is (rather unsuccessfully) try and walk back/clarify his statement.
Batting Averages [Comic, Page 3] - Calvin, having had enough of his discussion with Gumm, informs Accel that he's leaving and that he will talk to her (and only her) later. His typically-flowery prose ends up sabotaging him even further when he tells Accel that he has more important things to "get cracking on"--which prompts Gumm to retort she would love to one day "get cracking" on him. Calvin is initially baffled by this and has to think it over Gumm's implication...and is left appalled once it finally clicks. He openly yells at Gumm, "WHY, I'D NEVER!"
Batting Averages [Comic, Page 4] - Gumm's response to Calvin's declaration of refusal (back on Page 3) is to simply look him over (up and down) and bluntly state: "Wanna bet?" Calvin (who at this point has clearly had his nerves stroked by Gumm more than anything else) can only storm out of the area, rambling about the entire situation at hand. Gumm blithely states to Calvin to take a chance on her offer and greets him farewell...with another incorrect name ("Castleton Dinger") that he strongly objects towards.
