The sun is about to set behind the clouds and the rain is about to come down.

The bird has the tip of its beak into a small hole it dug into the wood, from where it is extracting an insect. The bird's plumage is white on belly and back, with black wings spotted with white; red spot on back of the head identifies the specimen as male. The relatively short and small beak distinguish this species from the very similar Hairy Woodpecker. Watermark identifying photographer as Geneviève Laurin.
