It's important to keep the lore of @paaalpaca.bsky.social alive and well here on Bluesky, especially because we have some new Alpaca friends via @mpidr.bsky.social this year!
PAA Alpaca first showed up at #PAA2019 in Austin and has been a friend to all every PAA (even online during Covid!)
#paa2019 throwback
The #PAA2019 flash sessions that I went to were great, and I want to expand on why I think they should be the default kind of panel for oral presentations at larger meetings (hundreds or thousands of presentations, 5 - dozens of parallel sessions).
Some great #poweredbyIPUMS research in Health and Mortality 2 at #PAA2019 including research by @DrAilshire
Fascinating paper on segregation in the 19th century American west by @hpostel at #PAA2019. #poweredbyIPUMS with complete count data.
Fascinating demographic history of fertility on Estonian island of Muhu by @shpenev at #paa2019 session on contemporary and historical fertility transitions. Small population, but fascinating results on religion, birth seasonality, crop failures, data digitization, and more
What’s a flash session if you’re not at #PAA2019? 5 minute presentations with slides, no Q&A, no discussant. But after presentations authors stand at their poster and you have time in remaining hour to read all posters, chat with all authors.
Beginning to believe that flash sessions should just be the default form of conference presentation #PAA2019
Demography peeps, can’t wait to moderate this panel tomorrow at #PAA2019, looking forward to the wisdom of @ermeara @smonnat and Neil Mehta on this important topic—hope to see y’all there!!
@DataGeekB Morning yoga has become an official #PAA2019 activity. Do you think for #PAA2020 we can get the morning run on the official schedule?
One of these things is not like the other @PopAssocAmerica #PAA2019
