Winter Tree, Pagham Harbour

A winter oak leaning over the tide at Pagham Harbour. Worked into monochrome today to emphasise structure and cloud rather than colour.

Two House Sparrows perch on a branch of a tree with dark green leaves. Behind a cluster of leaves sits a female house sparrow facing to the right. She has a grey breast and underparts, a brown back with dark brown markings, brown head, yellow beak, and bright black eye. Partially hidden behind the female sits a male house sparrow facing to the left. His brown head with grey cap, dark cheek patches, yellow/grey bill, and black eye can be seen peeking out from behind the female's head and shoulder while the rear of his body (grey underparts and tail, and brown wings with black markings) peek out from behind the female's breast.

Aster tripolium (Sea Aster) at #RyeHarbourNR on Saturday and there were also some at #PaghamHarbour when I travelled west the following day but in both cases I didn’t see any rare Sea Aster Mining Bees - next time perhaps…

Day 1 of #30DaysWild

Spent the day at #PaghamHarbour in fab company. Saw cattle egrets, little egrets, little tern, herons, swans, shelduck, moorhen, swifts, swallows, bluetit, black headed gulls, coots…

Took sandwiches with us and ate them in the sun ☀️

At #PaghamHarbour Curlews & Redshanks feed on the waters edge.

A red veined Sea Beet hints at its role as the ancestor of the Beetroot (as well as Sugar Beet & Swiss Chard).

Sea Kale (Crambe maritima), floral embodiment of where sea meets sky.

Don’t understand how these Sessile Oaks (Quercus petraea) & other deciduous trees (rich with lichens) survive so close to the high tide mark, mingling with Common Cord-grass (Spartina anglica) & Sea Club-rush (Bolboschoenus maritimus).
