Hold on tight, reaching warp 7! Over an extended weekend, we embarked on a 2000-mile road trip from California, to Nevada, to Utah, and back; our destination: the badlands near Hanksville. Along the way, we visited Cathedral Gorge State Park in Nevada, near the Utah border. This stunning landscape was shaped by volcanic activity, which left behind thick layers of ash. Over time, vertical erosion sculpted dramatic formations in the soft bentonite clay, including this towering 100-foot-high chimney. -- ƒ/8.0, 12 mm, 1/30, 1/5, 0.7, 2 sec, ISO 400, Sony A7 II, Rokinon 12mm F2.8, HDR, CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, © 2025 Peter Thoeny, @Quality HDR Photography
