I did this last year with #patingoldsby, and yes he replied and the reply will be treasured. He was an amazing and incredibly talented poet and the world is a lesser place for his passing.

Very sad to hear of Pat Ingoldsby's death. Had many chats with him on Westmorland Street and at his home in Clontarf. Rest In Peace, Pat. #people'spoet #PatIngoldsby #Irishpoet

Sad news about the passing of #patingoldsby - a true original. We did lots of bits and pieces with him over the years on Dempsey’s Den. He’d often pop in for a chat with Ian and #zigandzag and was sillier than we were! #rip Pat 🙏

When I was 10 my school had me do a big painting to go up in the hall. One day a lad ran in to tell me “Pat’s Chat is looking at your picture!”
Pat was standing there admiring it and he was lovely to a shy kid.
My painting was shown over the credits of his show that week.
A unique man

Pat was a big part of our childhoods and was wonderfully bonkers on tv. A surreal moment then to see him in person, selling books across from Trinity. Stopped a few times to buy a book of his sharp, absurd, dark humoured poetry and he was always ready for a chat. A lovely man. RIP #PatIngoldsby

I had the honour of working as Pat's design assistant on this show. It was a well-planned and executed schedule as you would expect: every week we would head to the prop room and make something up with whatever was lying around. He was good fun to work with.
Bon Voyage #PatIngoldsby

My dear friend and brilliant inspiration. You were my guide on how to be an artist and not give a f*ck. Rest in peace and in poetry. You are already missed deeply. #PatIngoldsby

Another of the lovely, crazy, insightful Irish humans gone. Those that saw all the different epochs, and had something to say in them all #patingoldsby

DUBLIN IS THE ONLY CITY I KNOW WHERE AN OLD MAN WILL QUITE NATURALLY INVOLVE HIMSELF IN A CONVERSATION BETWEEN YOU AND A TOURIST MAP
Nassau Street - 10th June 1997 - Lunchtime

I was having a good look at the Direction Finder map on the street
and wandering along Clontarf Road with my eyes
until I found the corner of Vernon Avenue and Seafield Road West
the corner where I live.
I was looking at it and thinking quite happily to myself
- "Willow and Hoot are sound asleep right there
...now... on my mattress."
I always find that a warming thought when I'm in town
and feeling a bit lonely.
The big green arrow on the map was getting on my nerves
the way it was pointing and proclaiming
- YOU ARE HERE -
So I said - "How the fuck do you know?"
An old Dublin man who was meandering past
looked at me and shook his head -
"Aw Pat - don't be givin' the poor map a hard time -
aren't ye always where ye are!"

BALBRIGGAN RAILWAY STATION
Tuesday evening 4 March 1997
A seagull flew in over the platform and landed on the roof.
It peered down the chimney-pot and made crying noises into it.
It stared out over the beach and cried for that.
It gazed across the town and cried for that too.
A second gull came swooping in and landed on the chimney.
Not too near. Just right.
The first gull made little chattering noises.
Over and over. Fast friendly chatters.
Then it raised its head straight up, opened wide its beak
and iced the sky with a shriek.
Now they were both doing it
side by side
shrieking into one.
They flew out to sea together.
Veering over to the right.
Down low to the waves.
Up again.
Then straight out
further and further away over water
until no matter how hard you looked
you could not see them anymore.

TWO LITTLE DUBLIN BOYS LOOKING OUT THROUGH THE WINDOW OF THE BUS NEARING SKERRIES... LOOKING OVER THE FIELDS TO THE SEA
"I see a bo!"
"It's noh! It's a liehouse."
PAUSE
"You know the fella that lives out there -
how does he come over here?"
"Bo - buh he doesn' live there -
he comes over here for Christmas."
"An'... an' his dinner."
"An' all."
THEN CAME THE EASY SILENCE
WHICH FOLLOWS WHEN EVERYTHING
HAS BEEN WORKED OUT PERFECTLY.

#PatIngoldsby gave us back the beauty of flowers beating the concrete, of Dublin accents and phrases, brought you back into the moment, with a wry look, a comment, a witty observation, but always coloured with that intense real magical world that he saw. A LEGEND

I’m remembering today, as an asthmatic child who’d a number of bad chest doses between ages 6 and 12, watching Pat Ingoldsby on his RTÉ TV show, as he takes out his blue inhaler, upturns it to the camera, and transforms it into a submarine periscope. 💚 #PatIngoldsby #Ireland #Legend

#PatIngoldsby is a huge influence in my life. As a child, he showed me a world filled with wonder, madcap humour, & possibility that shaped how I see. It was an honour to work with his writing in our show "Flirting with the Surreal", & to meet the man himself. A blessing.
May he dance wild & free.
