The city of Rome was sacked by the forces of the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V. Around 6000 Spanish soldiers & 14000 German #Landsknechts mutinied due to lack of pay and attacked and looted Rome. Most of the #SwissGuard died buying time for the Pope to escape. #payyourmercenaries
