An impressive vintage 1950s 60s one of a kind handmade sterling silver modernist Pear design brooch by metalsmith/enamelist John Szymak (1923-2007) of Dallas, Texas. One of the earliest pieces that I've seen by Szymak! Entirely handmade hand fabricated from sterling sheet and wire to form this exceptional piece of wearable figurative modernist art jewelry! John Szymak attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Massachusetts, and the School for American Craftsmen in Rochester, New York. He maintained a workshop in Dallas, Texas throughout most of his career. He worked in gold, silver, and pewter, with or without gems or enamels. His work was featured in the seminal exhibition, "Designer - Craftsmen USA 1960" and has also appeared in Craft Horizons magazine (now American Craft magazine) many times over the years! Measures 4-1/8" tall by 2.75" widest, and weighs 19 grams total. Marked as shown, "Szymak Sterling". Like all of Szymak's work, this is a one of a kind creation that you won't see for sale anywhere else! Excellent vintage condition.
