That will be it for today.. About 5km up stream and 5km back..

I did not reach the Pefferlaw Dam, but I will try in the future.

Thanks for joining me once again.

Finally shy of 5km up from river mouth. The limit of navigation. At the CN rail bridge over the river, water is too shallow & too fast flowing to continue.

If fact I hit a rock with the fin & fell in just after taking this pic.

After three sharp 90-180degree bends the river is becoming noticeably narrower, faster flowing and more filled with dead fall.

The river continues to bend and twist on itself. Until at just past 3km mark form the bridge, a Hydro corridor passes over.

But no such luck.. Around the next bend.. Bam! A McMansion on the west river bank...

After the white boathouse, the river feels properly wild.

Feels like I've left civilization behind. The river begins to bend and meander a lot more.

At about 2km from the bridge a rather imposing boathouse sits.. It seems neglected and seldom used. Not many properties around it have water based structures.

Past the abandoned boathouse the river makes a sharp turn west becomes wilder.

A glimpse of what it once was is there. But as promised the west bank is still private property.

This boathouse has seen better days.. Sitting on the eastern bank of the river it is one of the last properties on the East bank.. After this the east side of the river is wild bush.

But the west not so much.

Moving up the river at about 1.5km from the bridge the river begins to narrow, but it is still deep.

In case you ever wondered what the speed limit of Pefferlaw river is.. It's 9km/h...

I can confirm that I did not break this speed limit on the paddleboard.

What looks to be an island with some retainment walls around it exists on the eastern shore about 1km up from the bridge.

Even with all this manmade encroachment there are a few strands of habitat set aside from wildlife.

This stand of reeds/island had a no fishing sign around it.

Past the bridge both east and west banks of the river are lined with properties.. Most of which own at boat or two.. It's a theme.

The bridge is the only road crossing that we will see today. And the boat traffic around the bridge is not insignificant.

The river in this part is rather deep. Most likely dredged for boating purposes.

About a kilometer up from the mouth of the river, Highway 48 crosses over.

Moving further up the river again on the west shore. There are two channels built in with housing/cottages on the banks.

On the west bank of the river opposite of the marinas there are dredged but unused basins for what I can only assume were meant to be more marina space.

Moving up the river from the mouth (south bound). On the east banks there are marinas.

A theme of this river is motorized pleasure crafts.

Immediately south of the mouth of the river there is a cut for a marine. From aerial photos it seems like this might have at one point in time been a separate branch of the river. But now its all for boat traffic.

Incase you're wondering where all of this is taking place.

The mouth of the river is rather wide for what seems to be a small watercourse. But as with most things in lake Simcoe, the hand of man is involved.

There is a marine and loads of cottages on the lower stretches of this river.

Alright, it's been a while, but its still summer. So its time for another nautical edition of #RavineRamble

This time its a tad more rural, Pefferlaw River at the south east end of Lake Simcoe. This paddle happened yesterday BTW.
