Is time a figment of our imaginations? Cosmologists and physicists come up empty handed when they attempt to pin down time. So what, exactly, is it?

Exdurance is needlessly handicapped right from the start as the exduring objects (not existing at more than one moment) apparently fail to be multilocated in spacetime, which seems to disqualify #exdurance from being a legitimate mode of persistence.

That stuff always fascinated me. Thought I'd share :-)

Presentism VS Eternalism

Is time flowing, or is every moment already there?

Exdurantists accept, but endurantists deny, momentary object-stages confined to t-slices of an object’s spacetime path. Both agree a 3D entity represents the persisting object in its entirety. Perdurantists differ, holding that only a temporal part is present at any given t-slice.

We now see philosophers from physics backgrounds defending eternalism, when they should have been the ones critically examining the premises of mathematical absolutism. Philosophy risks becoming merely a validation machine for physics. #PhilosophyOfTime

If the poker #exdures it is exactly located at some t-slice of its path in its entirety: no parts of the poker are missing from it. In other words, an exduring object is wholly present at exactly one moment of time.

If the poker #perdures it is exactly located at its entire path but not at any other region, including various t-slices of its path. What is located at such slices are distinct temporal parts (‘t-parts’) of the poker.

Degrees, titles, frameworks — all make fine insulation.
But fresh air doesn’t always come through official vents.

Sometimes it drifts in from the street, or slips through a question you never let in.

If o is located at a proper subregion R of a larger region R′, it does not follow that o is located at R′. And conversely, if o is located at R, it does not follow that o is located at any proper subregion of R.

Retrocausality: Can the Future CHANGE the Past? What if the choice you make tomorrow could change the event that happened yesterday? It sounds like science fiction, but it's a mind-bending possibility being seriously debated by physicists right now. This is the world of Retrocausality—the radical idea that the future can reach back and influence the past. Join us as we dive deep into the strangest corners of quantum physics, where the fundamental laws of reality appear to be time-symmetric. We’ll explore controversial theories like the Transactional Interpretation and the Two-State Vector Formalism, which suggest that time isn't a one-way street, but a conversation between what was and what will be. Is the arrow of time just an illusion? We'll also investigate shocking experiments in Mind-Matter Interaction that challenge everything we know about causality. Can our future intentions retroactively alter the output of a random number generator? While many mainstream physicists dismiss retrocausality as a misinterpretation, a growing number of pioneers are embracing it as the key to unlocking the deepest unsolved mysteries of our universe. This isn't just a physics lesson; it's a journey that will make you question the nature of free will, predestination, and reality itself. The answers might just change the way you see your own life story—both the parts you've lived and the ones you haven't. If you love ideas that challenge your perception of reality, you’ve found your next obsession. Follow us now to have your mind blown, and leave a 5-star review if you believe science should be weird—it helps more curious minds find the show!

On a common understanding of #persistence, something persists if, somehow or other, it exists at various times. The three rival modes of persistence are #endurance, #perdurance, and #exdurance.

Much of contemporary #PhilosophyOfTime is an ongoing battle between two rival ontologies of time, #eternalism and #presentism.

#DavidBrink is concerned with defending temporal neutrality, the thesis that agents should attach no normative significance to the temporal location of benefits and harms, all else being equal.

We remember the past but not the future, believe that our actions cause effects in the future but not the past, and prefer that our pains be past and our pleasures future.

To live like this is to live with intention.
With presence.
With creativity.
To see the present not as a stepping stone, but as a brush painting the canvas of tomorrow.
Every action: a color.
Every thought: a shape.

7/10: 19th-century field theory (Maxwell) and thermodynamics introduced philosophical shifts. Entropy’s “arrow of time” questioned deterministic ontologies, suggesting a universe governed by irreversible processes. #Thermodynamics #PhilosophyOfTime

Ever wondered about perfect timing? 🌟 Kairos, the Greek concept of the opportune moment, shaped ancient rhetoric and ethics, influencing everything from Aristotle’s poetics to modern decision theory. Still sparks debates on timing vs. chance today! (Q845756) #AncientGreece #PhilosophyOfTime #Kairos
