When visiting the iconic DC-3 Plane wreck in Iceland, I was surprised to find a second wreck a few metres away. This was towed here after crash landing elsewhere in the country.

Lost.
The iconic DC-3 wreck on Sólheimasandur had been on my Iceland list for ages, and finally seeing it in person felt surreal. I only managed a brief visit, but it was well worth the trip to see it.

Plane wreckage on forest floor
Up the hill in Mission’s Heritage Park is this mysterious small aircraft wreck. It was once tangled in a tree but is now on the forest floor. Graffiti dates it back to 1971, but its story is a mystery!

A tall fire lookout tower rises above a densely forested area, constructed with a sturdy metal framework. A small, enclosed cabin sits at the top of the tower, accessible by a narrow staircase that winds upward.
