I saw and loved this on a visit to Poole Museum, Dorset, in 2018, but I can't find my notes, so don't know anything about it. Help!

British landscape watercolorist, printmaker, and teacher Arthur Bell, born in Kettering, Northamptonshire, captures a close-up portrait of a young woman with rich brown skin and her dark hair in tightly-curled ringlets that appear somewhat unkempt and pulled back slightly. Her facial features are prominently displayed. Her eyes, large and dark, are slightly downcast, giving her a contemplative or perhaps slightly melancholic expression. Her gaze is directed down to our right , but her head is turned slightly towards us. Her lips are closed, forming a neutral expression that avoids a smile or frown. The overall expression is one of quiet seriousness or contemplation, rather than sadness. She is wearing a sleeveless dress with a pale yellow base, patterned with muted orange and white designs that are not sharply defined, suggesting a slightly worn or faded fabric. The dress looks simple and possibly homemade. The artist's style uses visible brushstrokes, particularly in the hair and the dress, giving the painting a slightly textured quality. The background is pale sage-green, providing a simple contrast to the girl's dark skin and the more textured elements of her hair and clothing. The muted background helps to focus attention on the girl’s face and expression. The overall atmosphere is one of mild quietude. Bell returned wounded from World War I and studied at Bournemouth Municipal School of Art where he met fellow student Bertha Beal, whom he married in 1922. Both were prolific between the two world wars, having work selected for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, being members of the Poole and East Dorset Art Society and Bournemouth Arts Club and having joint exhibitions. Bell became Cheltenham College’s director of art. He was elected to the Royal West of England Academy (RWA) in 1947.
