Three Gentoo Penguins with orange beaks, white chests and breast, black backs and exposed wings and pinkish feet in line to enter the icy water while 2 more Gentoo Penguins hang back. Notable are the dirty chests from excrement at the nests that they have been sitting on. Port Lockroy is a bay with a small island that the Brits occupied for years for various reasons, most recently important weather study. It is officially abandoned but serves as a tourist destination and the southernmost general post office in the world. One can get a passport stamp at the base. Coolest stamp I have.
Part of Port Lockroy structures (where the store is located-the southernmost mall on earth-my designation*) Low black buildings with red window frames on rock without snow but surrounded with snow. Note the radio towers and one might see the poles lined up in the snow on the left to limit being close to Gentoo nests. A small portion of a snowsled is in the bottom left corner. The foreground has sparsely nesting Gentoo penguins on the bare rocks and a few Snowy Sheathbills (white birds that are scavengers as well as penguin egg and chick predators). *McMurdo does not have the door open for the general public business as far as I know regarding my Mall designation and the Post office. You have to be cleared/invited?
A passport stamp of grey black ink on printed paper "PORT LOCKROY. ANTARCTICA 14 DEC 2016"with an Adélie penguin as the central theme. I saw only Gentoo Penguins around Port Lockroy so I wonder why the choice. Adélie's have the blunt snout as seen here not the prominent beak of the Gentoo Penguins
