Swartbooi says the amount of potholes across the capital, especially at Katutura, is a crisis that needs urgent attention from the municipality. He says the sizes and depth of the potholes have increased and questions why nothing has been done to address the situation. Swartbooi said this yesterday in parliament while posing questions to minister of urban and rural development James Sankwasa. “Has he begun talking to the local authorities in terms of addressing this situation? Because I know the local authorities probably do not even have the funds,” he said. Swartbooi said the current pothole crisis is likely to increase road accidents and damage vehicles. He argued that by the time the potholes are fixed, there will not be vehicles that are roadworthy, and called on the line ministries to urgently give attention to the situation. Across the capital, the City of Windhok has begun filling up the potholes with sand. However, due to ongoing heavy rainfall, the sand is often washed out. Some residents complain that the potholes have become road hazards, not only for vehicles but also for the public due to the dust.
