In the end, I wasn’t quite able to finish my #MARCHintosh project on time, as my two #OWC 480GB SSDs have been stuck at customs for the past 10 days. So RAID0 is off the cards for March, and the #PowerMacG5 has to make do with 16GB of RAM, a #GeForce7800GT and Sorbet Leopard for the moment.
Two small figures stand in front of a giant, grey industrial intake fan. The massive blades loom over them, creating a sense of immense scale.
"The main vent is spinning! Jump for the airflow before the reactor wall turns us to ash! This base is going critical!” #MARCHintosh #PowerMacG5
A close-up of two intruders inspecting a silver disc-shaped battery tucked under overhanging layers of green circuitry modules.
"The Master Power-Disc. Pull this and the station clock resets to the dawn of time. They'll never find our logs in 1904.” #MARCHintosh #PowerMacG5
A Lego Imperial Navy Trooper stands in a narrow crawlspace next to a large, circular silver fan grille that looks like a massive engine turbine.
"The intake turbine is ramping up. I hear clinking in the service tunnel.” "Probably just the hull plates shifting. Carry on, TK-G5.” #MARCHintosh #PowerMacG5
Two armored guards patrol a metallic corridor lined with small, silver cylindrical capacitors that resemble massive industrial power canisters.
"Sector cleared! No invaders. Sir, there’s a neon boot print near the power cylinders.” "It's just structural expansion, rookie.” #MARCHintosh #PowerMacG5
Two small figures stand on a reflective aluminum floor in front of a massive, silver, vertical-finned heatsink that looks like a brutalist skyscraper.
"This cooling monolith is massive. If we pull these four data-pillars, the whole base locks down. Can we just tag it and leave?” #MARCHintosh #PowerMacG5
Any fool who attempts to accomplish something even remotely productive on an outdated #PowerMacG5 must not bypass #SorbetLeopard! Kudos to the anonymous developers who have undertaken this amazing project! happymacs.wordpress.com/2024/08/06/s...
Aluminum case show off…
Fun fact: The #PowerMacG5 consumes approximately 25 times more energy than the #RaspberryPi5 to achieve only 20% of its performance.
Brutalism in industrial design, from the time when engineers were pushed to their limits by physical constraints. #PowerMacG5
An eye-level, medium shot of a desktop computer setup featuring an open Apple Power Mac G5 tower on a dark grey desk surface. The silver aluminum case of the computer, on the left, has its side panel removed, revealing internal components and a large heat sink with a prominent "G5" logo. Cables connect the tower to a black Dell monitor on the right, which displays a Mac OS X desktop with a blue and pink aurora borealis wallpaper and a dock at the bottom. In front of the monitor is a wired Apple Pro Keyboard and a white Apple Pro Mouse
Finally got my hands on a last gen G5 Power mac, Dual Core 2.3Ghz, Came with 4GB RAM but of course ill be upgrading to 16GB 😉

A collection of vintage Apple computers is neatly arranged in a basement workspace with unfinished walls lined with pink insulation. The machines are placed on and around a beige desk with a wood-themed vinyl floor beneath. On the floor in the foreground sits a Graphite iMac G3 facing the camera. To the left of it is a Shuttle XPC cube, and to the right are three Power Mac G4 towers in a row: a Quicksilver, a Mirrored Drive Doors (MDD), and a Graphite model. Furthest to the right is an aluminum Mac Pro. On top of the desk are various Apple laptops and desktops. From left to right: a Lime iBook G3 Clamshell is open and angled toward the camera. Behind it, partially obscured by the laptops, is a white iMac G4. Next to the iBook G3 is a 12-inch PowerBook G4, followed by a 15-inch PowerBook G4, and then a 12-inch iBook G4, all open and arranged in a tidy row. Behind them is a large 24-inch Sun Microsystems LCD monitor, which is connected to a Power Mac G5 tower sitting on the right. On top of the Power Mac G5 is a PowerBook G3 “Pismo” model.
My current #powerpcmac lineup! #ibookg3 and #ibookg4, #powerbookg4 and #powerbookg3, #powermacg4 and #powermacg5, #imacg3 and #imacg4, and a #shuttlexpc and #macpro for good measure!

Next #homeoffice photo where I upgraded from G4 to a mighty #PowerMacG5 (dual 1.8Ghz if I recall correctly) in 2004. Its so was blooming heavy and the handle edges were so sharp you could almost cut your fingers off. Also bought the newly designed AI 20" Apple Cinema Display to match. Giddy times!
