In #Year6 we continued #Geography by looking at the positives and negatives of natural disaster zone, like Iceland.
We discussed volcanic ash & its role in soil fertilisation as well as how volcanoes can support tourism.

Recently #Year6 continued their #Geography unit!
Our #retrieval linked back to Iceland’s divergent boundaries.
We explored the process of a volcanic eruption & continued to experiment with how to use @lightup as a support.

I also experimented with using Halo AR to support learning & highlight a way #EdTech can be a purposeful adaptation to tasks.

A short thread 🧵
Today in #Year6, we continued our #Geography unit on hazards!
We revisited last lesson & Y5 in our #retrieval task, we explored plate boundary types & how they behave and how Iceland is an example of divergent plate behaviour.

❤️this What a lovely idea to communicate significant landmarks in local places #children’sgeographies #placeresponses #primarygeography
Fantastic #primarygeography in the woods today, mapping the stream habitats, flow and erosion and deposition. It was a fantastic experience for the Year 6 and for me!
Has anyone done a theme week at school for sustainability? Looking for ideas for how to run the week in June.

Geography skills need updating. #Curriculumreview #greenskills. #enquiry (currently not mentioned explicitly #primaryGeography but should be) matters & when done well involves critical thinking & decision- making / action, giving agency in purposeful contexts.
IMO #primaryGeography curriculum already has implicit teaching opps re #climatecrisis as you can’t teach human, physical & environmental interactions in a meaningful way otherwise but it needs to be explicit. We should keep strong foundations of learning re weather & climate as part of progression.

Well worth having a look what's around your area and thinking how it might fit with your curriculum.
Even something no longer visible could be an exciting hook into a subject.

Just a reminder that the #CurriculumReview call for evidence ends next week if you haven’t already contributed. I’m going to add a thread of things on my mind as someone passionate about #primarygeography
This week, I trialled using the HaloARapp in #Geography to bring an animated GIF of tectonic plate movement to life on the page.
🌍 Tech made learning immediate & easy to revisit—excited to explore its potential further!

This week, #Year6 kicked off our #Geography unit on hazards!
We revisited mountains from Y5 in our #retrieval task, then explored continental drift & the mystery of the Lystrosaurus fossil. Some interesting connections made!
