Deaths in ICE custody are inhumane and inexusable.
As are the deaths of more than TWENTY THOUSAND people in U.S. jails and prisons each year.

I'm sure the #prison exemption for the 13th amendment made sense once, but the rise of for-profit prisons, where people get put away for BS reasons & encouraged to fight so more years can be tacked to their sentence means the prison exemption for the #13thamendment was a mistake.

Black women have a long history of powering the #abolitionist movement. 👀 5 women we're spotlighting for their advocacy in abolishing ongoing slavery in the US 🧵

- Abolition is allocating resources away from the prison industrial complex and into what the community actually needs (food, housing, medical care, libraries, schools, parks)
- Abolition is about understanding that punishment does not solve social problems

A collage style page from a zine is pictured. It features cut out words and images from magazines in a colorful, symmetrical design. It includes a bar code, and looks like it could be the cover of a magazine titled "Abolition Now". The words on the image say (top to bottom), "Undo Your Prison Symptoms, Our National Movement with on Goal: Abolition Now, Look Back on Any Bold Move, The World Could Use More of This, Thank You, We believe everyone deserves a seat at the table and everyone has a story worth telling."
The capstone project for our Columbus Community Abolition Collective's first term was making a zine! We were each asked to create a page, and this was my contribution. The organizers are going to put them all together so we can copy, print, and share! #abolition #prisonabolition

GUERILLA: Carceral apartheid didn’t just lock bodies — it criminalized Black politics. The prison state fractured revolutionary currents, then sold those fractures back as “security.” Hunger strikes & Ashker proved resistance survives even inside concrete hells. #CarceralTruth #PrisonAbolition

(I never thought I’d be using that tag in the good omens fandom but here we are 😅)
I'm mostly in favor of #PrisonAbolition because so much of the #prison system is a racist continuation of slavery. But I think switching it to a #rehabilitation focus like in #Sweden would be better. And then keep a few long-term #prisons open for serial killers & others who can't be rehabilitated.
