A digital scan of a slide film photo. The photographer is sitting in a bar taking a photo of the street scene outside. Although mid afternoon in May it is quite dark and gloomy. The streets are sodden with the rain of a sudden storm. Immediately outside of the bar a line of metal and wicker chairs are facing the photographer, empty. A pot plant and an ashtray, with one discarded butt, sit on a round marble effect tabletop. In the mid distance a man, dressed in black in a hooded top, is standing in front of a parked car paying for a parking ticket at a machine. A candle, that is inside the bar, can be seen reflected in the window of the bar projected onto the dark bodywork of the parked car. A brake light from a passing car, that is out of the scene, trails across a third of the photo due to the slow shutter speed used. On the opposite side of the road, to the left, posters advertising events are plastered onto an old style, round advertising plinth. The opposite shops have their lights on and these are reflecting on the wet tarmac. An alleyway disappears into the distance.
Amsterdam, Spring 2005. It was mid afternoon when the sky dramatically darkened, so I headed into a bar. The rain was torrential, with thunder and lightning. Unfortunately I can’t remember the location.

A colour scan of a photographic slide. The image has been taken through the windows of an abandoned factory, the Lucy Eagle Ironworks in Oxford. Brambles can be seen growing up the windows. The silhouette of a tree can be seen in the upper panes of glass. Through the window a setting sun is illuminating further interior glass windows with a brilliant golden yellow light.
The Lucy Eagle Ironworks alongside the Oxford Canal, early 2000s. After closing it was made into luxury apartments, but before it was I managed to capture this image of a setting sun blazing through the old factory windows. Fujifilm Provia 400
