FANTASTIC 4! It’s Black History Month! And it’s my firm belief that the greatest export from the USA is Afro-American culture. If I’m being honest I am steeped in it. The music I make has a direct lineage and debt to the efforts of my elders who came before me. This image could easily have 4 other faces but after a lot of thought it was these who I wanted to represent. James Brown for the funk and soul power. Fela for the original African sounds combined with that power. Juan Atkins for transmuting these with his music into a new being entirely. And Rakim for his groundbreaking unparalleled style creating generations of MCs speaking their truth. I am but an observer and a learner in this lifetime.
