„Vienna Vikings gegen Nordic Storm aus Kopenhagen. Eben lief die schwedische Hymne, gleich kommt die österreichische.“ Erdkundeunterricht hatte die Dame am Mikrofon eben bei SAT1 offensichtlich nicht. #ELF #football #ransport
Liverpool : Where to go and how : map folder : May 1935 : Liverpool Corporation Passenger Transport Department : Liverpool : 1935 : cover : A grand folding leaflet containing information on places of interest served by the municipality's tramway and motor bus system and issued in May 1935. Liverpool Corporation Passenger Transport Department was, at the time, one of the largest municipal transport undertakings and was highly regarded for the expansion and modernisation of the system being undertaken. Not only was the Department rapidly expanding the use of the now technologically advanced motorbus but it was still investing heavily in both the expansion of the tramway network into the vast, new suburban housing schemes being built by the Corporation but it was also attempting to modernise its tramway fleet. These vehicles, largely built at the Department's own works at Edge Lane, would culminate in the late 1930s fleet of streamlined "Liners" and "Baby Grands". Sadly the outbreak of war was to stop the replacement of older cars and, in post-war years, with a lack of modernisation of routes within the crowded inner-city areas, the decision was made to scrap the tramways and the last one ran in 1957 to be ousted by the diesel bus. The cover is dominated by a view of one of the earlier batches of new cars, this being 821, one of a batch of fifty "Marks Bogies" named after the new General Manager, W.G. Marks, and that entered service in February 1935. This image, an 'official view', has been doctored; it has lost its Gas Department advert and the large service number screen below the destinations has been 'airbrushed' out. Below, Liverpool in a decorative frame some what at odds with the generally more contemporary design, and the text and City coat of arms.

The map has appeared here before; it was drawn for a fine guide to the city's Parks and Recreation Grounds and was reproduced here with their obvious permission. It is drawn by by W H Harrison shows the main sites as well as giving transport in the form of tram and bus routes. I do like the compass point using the city's emblematic "Liver Bird"! The city is 'turned' slightly away from true north so as to show the River Mersey running left-right and above the city showing major roads, parks, railway lines, important destinations such as football grounds, and basic tram and bus information. On the right a list of the city's tramway routes appears.
Where to go and how - a 1935 guide to Liverpool by the city's Corporation Passenger Transport Dept and with a fine pictorial map (borrowed from the Parks Dept!) showing the city's then expanding tramway & motor bus system. #ransport #Liverpool

Btw extrem gutes HD Bild.
