It's easy to feel despairing these days. Rebecca Solnit looks back on the history of positive political change and reminds us that activists are always working against the odds and trying to accomplish what seems impossible... until they succeed. #LetNotYourHeartBeTroubled #RebeccaSolnit

I picked up a copy of Rebecca Solnit’s, The Beginning Comes After the End. I’m reading it slowly and carefully to help my mind reframe our current depressing situation. As always, she digs deep to find the light.

"It’s this idea that we don’t have to look for an individual, for a savior, for an Übermensch. I think the counter to Trump always has been and always will be civil society. A lot of the left wants social change to look like the French Revolution or Che Guevara. Maybe changing the world is more […]

Interview with Rebecca Solnit. Her claim to fame in the vernacular is coining the word mansplaining.

I highly recommend reading this beautiful interview by the amazing Rebecca Solnit.
Her answer to the last question struck me and resonates with me, and probably so many other women, regarding the negative advice of my upbringing.

9/ Rebecca Solnit (EE. UU., 1961). 🗣️ ¿Alguna vez un hombre te ha explicado algo que ya sabías? Solnit popularizó el concepto "mansplaining", diseccionando con humor y brillantez la condescendencia machista y la importancia de que las mujeres sean escuchadas. 📚🚫 #RebeccaSolnit

We are careening toward fascism and leftists are still debating purity to “earn” votes. Your vote is not a valentine, it’s a chess move. #RebeccaSolnit #iykyk Yeah, Kamala and Hillary were just establishment fascists. 🙄

Should be #RebeccaSolnit, of course. And “captured.”
My apologies.
"[T]heir theory of power is that they have it all and no one else matters, which is a stupid theory of power. Political power is relational; it's in the ability to get and keep support, alliances, connections, to be at the heart of the kind of systems... they keep destroying." #RebeccaSolnit

You may not agree with everything #RebeccaSolnit writes in this article, but she shares some interesting thoughts which, I think, are worth reading.

Orwell's Roses, by #RebeccaSolnit
Gardens are acts of resistance—eye-opening essays from Stalin’s war on truth to Colombia’s toxic rose trade. Essential reading for our age of lies.
Remember that we take important decisions for the viability of our future every time we choose to disparage or encourage.

#RebeccaSolnit en este libro donde también señala: “Esta es una época en la que los puntos de referencia se están borrando, en la que corremos el riesgo de olvidar lo que había antes y aceptamos el caos y la destrucción que está ocupando su lugar”.
This was an interesting non-fiction. It bopped back and forth between discussing Orwell's activism and the capitalist and imperialist aspects of the importation of roses to England. The juxtaposition was fascinating.
