#ReducetheLawn All too often beautiful native magnolias (Magnolia grandiflora) are plunked in the middle of lawns. They lose their large leathery leaves all year long, so it's a good idea to replace the lawn in the leaf drop area with native acid-loving shrubs, bunching grasses, & ground covers.

Black-eyed Susans are making a big show now in mid-summer.
Pollinator-friendly landscapes are filled with an assortment of natives and are never subjected to landscape-wide pesticides (including lawncare chemicals).

Sometimes it’s hard to focus on what I can do and ignore the rest. In my city yard yesterday I saw my second eastern garter snake - just chillin’ This sight that was so common in childhood fill me with peace. #justbreathe #nativeplants #reducethelawn

Prairie in progress! Hoping this year will show off with more wildflowers but I still don’t understand how we’ve collectively decided flat, bland non-native grass is better looking than dynamic native grasses and forbs that harbor life. #nativegrass #reducethelawn
