The energy on the grounds was determined and informed. People came prepared with receipts—and visual reminders of what’s at stake.

Politics Smith defends using taxpayer dollars on travelling to U.S. to appear alongside controversial podcaster "This will be an incredibly important conversation to be had and shared widely with Americans," Smith's office said in a statement.
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith’s office is defending her plans to use public money to travel to the U.S. and appear alongside a controversial conservative podcaster at an event in Florida later this month in a statement that comes days after appearing on another American alt-right radio show.
The event's website lists the location only as "South Florida" with tickets starting at US$1,500 for the March 27 gala.
Postmedia followed up with the premier’s office Monday, asking about how many staff would travel with the premier to Florida and if public money would cover that travel and subsequent expenses. Smith’s office didn’t answer questions about how many staff would accompany her on the trip, saying the itinerary was still to be finalized, but did confirm that costs would be paid by taxpayers. “Given this travel will be part of the premier’s advocacy in the U.S., the costs for the premier’s travel and accommodations will be covered by Alberta’s government.”

A social media post by Janis Irwin with the handle @janisirwin.bsky.social. The post reads: "Absolutely heartbreaking. The Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton is pausing intakes to critical services. All because of UCP funding cuts. You’ve got money to travel all over America, Premier. Reverse these cuts. Support survivors. Do the right thing. And do it now."

A tweet from Danielle Smith, with a profile picture of a woman with long hair, reads: "How can we trust Mark Carney when he moved his headquarters - and Canadian jobs - to the United States? He doesn’t have the best interest of Canadians at heart. We need a Prime Minister who doesn’t have a financial stake in the United States and who will put our hard-working Canadian families first." Below, a reply from Janis Irwin, with a profile picture of a person with short hair and glasses, reads: "Trust? Canadians’ interests at heart? The irony is rich. Did someone hack you?"

A woman with shoulder-length brown hair (Danielle Smith) is standing in front of a backdrop featuring the flags of Alberta and Canada. She is wearing a dark blazer with a badge that reads "PREMIER OF ALBERTA." She appears to be speaking at a podium, and there are several speech bubbles around her with the following text: 1. "Oh, was the start of the trade war today? I've been so busy kissing Republican politician asses in the States for all the months that it's been threatened that I forgot to think about any response other than eager capitulation." 2. "But now that apparently not everyone's on board with we secessionists being full throttle 51st state cheerleaders for some reason." 3. "I guess I have to momentarily pretend to support Canada for the first time in my entire political career." 4. "And say that we'll finally start thinking about a token response tomorrow." 5. "That isn't serious enough to actually annoy Trump."

A Facebook post by Rose Howitt, made 50 minutes ago, comments on Danielle Smith's upcoming visit to the US on March 27. The post suggests she might be gathering ideas to negatively impact their province or country. Below this, there's a repost by Edwin from a user named "disordered" on a social media platform. The repost questions why Danielle Smith is participating in a PragerU event with Ben Shapiro and expresses concern about Alberta taxpayers potentially funding her travel to Florida. The hashtags #ableg and #abpoli are included, along with a link to PragerU's event page. The image features a PragerU invitation to the "East Coast Gala 2025," highlighting Ben Shapiro, host of The Ben Shapiro Show, and Danielle Smith, Premier of Alberta. Their photos are included in circular frames on the invitation.
The image is a Facebook post by Ken Chapman, who is marked as an admin. The post includes a graphic for an event titled "East Coast Gala 2025," scheduled for Thursday, March 27th, in South Florida. The graphic features small circular images of two individuals: Ben Shapiro, identified as the host of The Ben Shapiro Show, and Danielle Smith, identified as the Premier of Alberta. The text of the Facebook post reads: "Why is our alleged Team Canada Premier traveling to Florida to participate in a PragerU ultra-right-wing event? The sponsoring organization is notorious for the distribution of misleading information on everything from creationism to climate change. Check out the company she's keeping in Trumpland: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/PragerU Can you imagine that she may stop by Mar o Lago while there and start the ball rolling on Alberta as the 51st State? Nah. That couldn't happen now that she's taken American booze off our shelves. Has that actually happened yet?"

Danielle Smith, once again, proving she has no loyalty to Canada. I wouldn't doubt she pops in at Trump's Shitshack (Mar-a-Lago) golf club and tries to make more under-the-table deals with Trump. #daniellesmith #smith #alberta #abpol #abpolitics #firetheucp #resistsmith #never51 #elbowsup
