#restaurangutangen once again went to her official local haunt, Duken Bar & Pizza, and tried two of their new pizzas as well as her old favourite the Sichuan Potato pizza, which was still lovely. The new ones were also excellent, very good vodka pizza which was basically just an upgraded Margherita
whose turn it was to order, but drinks, gyoza and edamame could be ordered immediately, and #restaurangutangen felt fairly treated. The jiggly panna cotta cat dessert with blueberry-yuzu sauce was adorable and delicious. So you should definitely go, but not all at once! trekantenoslo.no/ramen-oslo
#restaurangutangen went to Tomodomo to see if their handmade udon lived up to the hype, and it really did – great taste and texture, and excellent garnish; #therestaurant-utan party tried the Goma Dare (minced pork, sesame base, egg yolk, nori, spring onion) and Spicy Miso (same but with miso base,
#restaurangutangen went to Evelyn’s Table in #London (it was the best kind of Christmas present), and enjoyed it very much. It's an open kitchen with bar seating for 12 in the smallest possible basement, where three chefs calmly and elegantly lay out five courses and a number of in-between surprises
#restaurangutangen went to Izakaya by Vladimir Pak again and had the premium tasting menu. It really is very good, the star of the show is obviously the nigiri (including flawless hamachi and otoro), but everything else is good too. Salmon ceviche with wonderful jalapeño sauce. Wagyu beef tartare
#restaurangutangen went to Koie Ramen's new Grünerløkka and ordered shoyu #ramen with an extra egg, but ended up stealing quite a bit of her husband's tonkotsu soup because it's glorious and just so much better than the salty, fishy shoyu (but also too rich to eat a whole bowl of). #oslorestaurants
#restaurangutangen went to Duken bar og pizza yet again, this time reverting to the birria pizza (it really is great) and the kebab pizza (this time with the fefferoni, which improved it very much. She will surely be back. #oslorestaurants #oslopizza #therestaurant-utan
#restaurangutangen must admit that this too was excellent. And chocolate chai was surprisingly good too. And service is invariably excellent. www.permitroom.co.uk/locations/ox...
#restaurangutangen and daughter are just back from #Oxford where they (again) visited some of their usual haunts. They had dinner at Magdalen Arms, which is perhaps their Oxford favourite, and had very good mushroom tagliatelle and delicious, juicy chicken Kyiv with mashed potatoes and greens.
#restaurangutangen is delighted that Lviv Croissants have opened a branch in #Oslo and went there at dinner time today. Since they work on the often successful premise that things that are good in one type of bread are also good in another (e.g. gyros), it's perfectly possible to have dinner there.
#restaurangutangen and friends went to Diamond Indian Cuisine which had consistently good, but not very adventurous and not at all spicy Indian food. #therestaurant-utan had Goan fish stew which was coconut-tomato curry with tender pieces of fish. Not expensive and good service. #oslorestaurants
#restaurangutangen and husband returned to Duken bar og pizza to try the Sichuan potato pizza (excellent, paper-thin baby potato slices marinated in Sichuan pepper, white base with taleggio, spring onion and fried onion – not overly hot, but delicious) and the Thai Margherita pizza (basically
#restaurangutangen and daughter also had dinner at Topolabamba in #Edinburgh (as they always do). They seem to have shrunk the menu, but the QPR is still excellent, great tacos and quesadillas with plentiful fillings and good heat, perfect guacamole and good desserts. #edinburghrestaurants
#restaurangutangen and daughter went to Harajuku Kitchen in #Edinburgh and had pork gyoza, sticky chili karaage, salmon and tuna sashimi and ditto nigiri, dragon futomaki and salmon hosomaki (by accident, they actually tried to order salmon and tuna futomaki but got hosomaki and didn't bother to
while Mr. #restaurant-utan had duck (which was a bit less special), then they split a cheese platter and a tarte tatin with vanilla ice cream for dessert. Wine advice was very good, and #restaurangutangen especially appreciated getting half glasses of dessert wine (especially the magical Rivesaltes
#restaurangutangen has lived virtually next door to Le Benjamin for over two years, and finally got to try it. It deserves the reputation, she went with the very nicely priced three-course menu. First chicken liver parfait with beets and cornichons, really outstanding turbot with crab beurre blanc
#restaurangutangen tried Duken bar & pizza today, having heard great things about their birria taco pizzas, which come with a bowl of rich stock to dip the pizza in. It was good, the pizza crust is excellent (elastic and nicely charred), and the birria pork, lime and coriander topping was nice.
#restaurangutangen and daughter went to #Kibou Oxford _again_. They have now perfected their order and got chicken karaage (perfect!), loads of excellent nigiri, including outstanding bluefin chutoro, and two classic uramakis. The apple gyoza dessert was slightly boring, though. #oxfordrestaurants
#restaurangutangen and friends had pre-theatre dinner at Terra Moderna in Hampstead, where they do Australian-inspired Italian food. She had watermelon, peach and feta salad and then linguine with raw tuna, lemon butter and sesame, which was all good if not spectacular.
#restaurangutangen went to Panu for her birthday dinner, and this was an excellent choice. The tasting menu had seven elegant and playful servings, often with a sneaky chili sting (e.g. jalapeño jelly in cold tomato broth reminiscent of Alouette in Copenhagen), all delicious and very well executed.
#restaurangutangen and daughter finally decided to try something new and ended up having dinner at The Standard in Jericho. They were a little surprised by the very sweet, coconut-driven and not at all spicy chicken tikka masala, but loved the juicy tandoori lamb chops and garlic-coriander naan.
#restaurangutangen and daughter had lunch at yet another of their #Oxford haunts, Vaults and Garden. Or at least #therestaurant-utan daughter had lunch (very good chicken fricassee), #restaurangutangen actually just had cake (excellent chocolate cake with beetroot and raspberries, good carrot cake).
#restaurangutangen and daughter had dinner at another of their #Oxford haunts, Kazbar on Cowley Road. They keep coming back for their cozy North African interior and their penchant for Latin ballroom music. The food is a bit uneven, but very reasonably priced.
#restaurangutangen and daughter went to one of their #Oxford haunts, namely Kibou in Little Clarendon Street, which as usually provided excellent sushi – in particularly the nigiri made with very high-quality bluefin tuna toro, scallops, hamachi and salmon and perfect sushi rice.
#restaurangutangen needed lunch after visiting Père Lachaise and picked the nearby Nossa Churrasqueiro outlet without giving it too much thought. It was an excellent choice, she had an outstanding, succulent chicken sandwich with hot sauce (enormous and hard to eat in a polite way).
#restaurangutangen had dinner at Ha Long Baie in Rue de Saussure (unfortunately not the linguist). It's a small and simple Vietnamese restaurant, but the food is pretty good, especially the so-called ravioli (more like mince wrapped in soft rice dough) and beef brochettes served with salad leaves,
#restaurangutangen particularly liked raw tuna on top of chopped kiwi and avocado, with a deliciously fresh chilled cucumber sauce and red pepper sorbet. Very summery! Other favourites were excellent veal tartare with tarragon sabayon, smoked ricotta and bottarga,
#restaurangutangen is sticking to the 17th arrondissement and had the tasting menu at Rooster, which was excellent and very good value at €95 (allegedly 5 courses, but there were also two amuse-bouches, and two extra mini desserts, a sure way to please #therestaurant-utan).
#restaurangutangen had dinner at L'art du quotidien, a very charming place on the corner of Rue de Levis. She had absolutely delicious beef tomatoes dotted with ricotta, almonds and a mix of olives and onion. You just don't get tomatoes like that in Norway!
#restaurangutangen is in Paris, and yesterday she went to Au bon Jacques, just around the corner from her hotel, and had perfectly good beef tartare and chips and some very decent rosé from Provence, all at a very reasonable price. #therestaurant-utan #parisrestaurants aubonjacques.fr/fr
