Imagined that one day, her parents would come and take her back there to live, amongst the seals and the seabirds, under the dappled light which played through the quiet leaves of the lone great tree that stood in the safest and most beautiful faraway place in the world. But, as Ren had forced her to admit to him—to herself—that had always been a lie she’d told to comfort herself.
