Linux distros are quietly abandoning their own desktops for KDE Plasma, and I get why It's just that good.

I wish this were true for RHEL. I so hate that Gnome is tightly integrated into RHEL for their server GUI. I know every time I install RHEL it's the minimal install without any GUI (Gnome).
