A woman with shoulder length straight black pulled above her ear sits in the center of grey wall with grey-ish bell window while turning her head left in full profile. The curve of her head, nose, shoulder and bare arm all mirror the shape lines of the window. Her arms curve around her maroon shoulder strap blouse at the chest and rest in a relaxed fold on the dark skirt covering her lap. She wears no jewelry at all which enhances the effect of the woman’s downward bright red-lipped frown. Roberto Montenegro Nervo was one of Mexico’s most influential painters, muralists and illustrators. He never achieved the fame of peers like Diego Rivera, but few have. Most of his career is dedicated to illustration and publishing, portrait painting and the promotion of Mexican handcrafts and folk art.
