"You thinking about the reactor, again?" Myrna does not answer, but Barret can tell that he was right. The two of them have talked about this so many times that there is not much left to say. And besides, everything was already settled. Shinra was going to build the reactor. It was decided. "This is good for us, baby. Good for Corel," he says. "It'll change things, you'll see. We'll have money to fix up the house. Travel, like we always talked about." All the things they talked about doing. Impossible, with the way things were. They would not travel anywhere. They would live and die in Corel, just like their folks did. Fixing the same damn leaking faucet time and time again the rest of their lives. "Those things are nice. But I don't need them. I need you." Barret reaches for her, and she lets him pull her into his arms. She fits against him perfectly, head tucked into his shoulder and her arm across his chest. "What're you talking about? You have me." He bends his head down to kiss her, hard enough to convince her of his words. "Of course you have me." He kisses her again and she clings to him. It is almost enough to distract from whatever trail of thoughts she was chasing, but then she pulls away, holding his face between her hands. Again, she studies his face, the crease between her brows returning. "There's always something to seek, always something to do. You're always chasing something. It'll wear you out." Barret grins at her. Leans in close. "Didn't mind it so much when I was chasing you, huh?"

80s GI Joe AU. Amid a prolonged scuffle on a jungle assignment, Barret "Mineshaft" Wallace has gotten his COBRA adversary onto his back. His left hand is clasped strongly over a considerably smaller left hand that holds a sword with a long blade and hilt. This adversary is wearing nothing but thigh-high black boots, and a belted utilikilt with extremely high thigh slits. Barret realizes this in the same moment as he becomes aware of his erection from their fighting. The COBRA agent seems eager to help Barret relieve the tight bulge in his cargo pants.
