A very short little panoramic video of Romeyer & the mighty Glandasse from a couple of viewpoints before I leave this afternoon to make my way, by stages, back to Devon. It's not looking bad 😉😃

Romeyer, and the Glandasse, which is partly veiled behind a snow shower.
A Griffon vulture at Romeyer - this was the best of my attempts on my humble Sony HX-60 at about 30x zoom
Romeyer putting on a splendid show for my penultimate day: first the Glandasse behind a fine veil of falling snow, then a pair of griffon vultures circling overhead while more snow came in.

A pretty morning in Romeyer: despite it being milder this morning, there was an early morning snow dump that added to the picturesqueness!

Romeyer 26150 France. Here you can see two of the hamlets (le Moulin and les Liotards) that with the other five (les Fougiers, les Vignons, les Chapays and les Arnauds middle left, les Planeaux round the corner out of sight, top left) make up Romeyer.
It stayed resolutely grey and damp this afternoon, but I popped the drone up to get a wintry view of Romeyer in the snow... still insanely beautiful! One day I'll get this view with snow *and* sun!

A very short ride up the Meyrosse valley from home... just in time, before the cloud came in... but will we get any snow? 🤔 It certainly feels cold enough !! 🥶
#romeyer #photography #france
Distinctly brrr this morning, with a keen wind, so a brief bimble up the valley to see brrrness. That's enough now, and I'm back indoors by the woodburner.

Wowsers. A walk I've done many times before, but what a perfect day for it today! Come with me for four minutes and see some amazing scenery...

Beautiful, beautiful Romeyer in the frost! The morning stroll up the ravin des Charoses...

Totes normal for Romeyer... the morning frosty stroll.

For those of you who prefer not-moving pictures, here's a selection of the NYD soup-&-sandwich picnic walk at Romeyer today. The best way to welcome in a new year!

Here's today's video of the viewpoint between Romeyer and the Glandasse... quite a nice spot to stop to have hot soup and a chunky capon sandwich for lunch. Just an hour from my front door 😃

On the path between Romeyer and Le Bichon (on the Balcon du Glandasse). Just an hour direct from my front door, and I had the whole walk to myself. Heaven.
My New Year's Day picnic spot, between Romeyer and the Glandasse. Probably my favourite spot in the world, not least as I can see my house (nestled in the background) in this unbelievable scenery.

Some more frosty photos from yesterday's stroll up the Ravin des Charoses at Romeyer...
#photography #frost #romeyer
Ravin des Charoses, Romeyer. The bottom of the valley doesn't see sunlight at this time of year, so frost lingers and builds up splendidly around the stream when it's properly cold at night.
An improvised tartiflette, using not-floury potatoes and rosé wine from Lidl. I couldn't find any genuine Reblochon, but U Express had some smoked 'tartiflette cheese', which actually did a very good job. I'm not going to starve for several days now.
A very satisfactory afternoon: a splendid stroll up the valley, and then not one but *two* large dishes of tartiflette cooked this evening to provide dietary fuel for the cold days ahead. Just can't beat a good tartiflette!

Le Moulin, Romeyer, and a glimpse of the Glandasse
les Arnauds, Romeyer
Even a 15-minute stroll around the block from home is a delight when you are in Romeyer and the sun's playing hide & seek...

Les Planeaux and the Dent de Die from near the Col de Romeyer
Frost on the ascent from the Col de Romeyer towards the Col de Bergu
The balcony path between Bergu and the Col de la Tour, with the unmistakable Glandasse up ahead
Not actually at Col de la Tour, but the vantage point up above the signposted path... easily accessed from the signpost at Col de la Tour, if you look for a little parallel path on the Glandasse side of the main path. The view both east and west is worth the small extra effort.
Just a few more shots from today's three-col walk from Romeyer... mostly a dead easy walk, though the short-cut descent from Col de la Tour to Romeyer isn't signposted - but the longer way round via le Grand Chêne is delightful anyway!

Another frosty morning here in Romeyer (-5C at 9am), so another crop of frosty photos... my OM System TG-7 has an excellent macro function which helps capture the close-up wonders of the crystals ❄️😀

Near the Col de la Tour, Romeyer, with the Montagne du Glandasse (2000m) as a backdrop. It's walking paradise, especially when it's qeather like today's!
I still have to pinch myself that I can do a three-col walk from my front door here in Romeyer and end up with this view of the mightly Glandasse just 20 minutes from home. And I had the three cols all to myself. Bliss.

Frost is a photographer's dream, and with low winter sun, this morning was a good one to get out just as the sun rose from behind the Romeyer mountains and before the frost thawed.

Romeyer 26150, in the Drôme département: sheltered by mountains all around, the village is actually seven hamlets... it didn't need to have a central defensive layout, as the only points of entry would have left potential marauders at a big disadvantage. It was on the route from Die, the administrative centre for the occupying Romans, to the Vercors plateau, a haven for livestock, and where Romans quarried limestone for building.
Just a 15-minute wander from my house... my Romeyer paradise. I first got this view 13 years to the day, when I came to view a house that was for sale. Under three months later, it was mine 😃

The Moustache e-bike got me as far as the Col de Romeyer, whence it was feet along the fist gentle bit of the climb to the Serre des Blaches
That'll do for a picnic view - and the capon with most of the trimmings wasn't bad either - still nicely hot!
The mighty Glandasse (2000m) keeps a friendly eye on everything at Romeyer
Hot Christmas pud, made by a kind friend and brought all the way from Devon for the occasion.
Anyway, safe to say that today's sunny second edition of yesterday's (cloudy) hot Christmas lunch picnic was a success. Box ticked.

Les Fugiers, Romeyer. Romeyer is actually a collection of seven hamlets, protected from marauders by the surrounding mountains. https://mairie-romeyer.fr/presentation-commune/#histoire
Romeyer
The cloud inversion has lifted here at Romeyer, so I'll be having another go at the hot Christmas picnic later, this time with the intended view! Quite a relief that the 2000m Glandasse is still there, as I'd not seen it since my arrival on Tuesday.

Oh well, I didn't get much of a view from my Christmas Day hot lunch picnic spot above the Col de Romeyer, but the food was hot and delicious, and my best effort yet. If the sun comes out properly in the next couple of days, it'll be Take 2, microwave edition!
#romeyer #christmaspicnic
While the hot Christmas lunch picnic is cooking, I've been for a short walk around Romeyer to enjoy the sight of a light overnight powdering of snow... hoping that the cloud lifts and the sun arrives as forecast!

I've escaped from Devon to come to Romeyer for Christmas: a mystery virus struck me down just as I was due to come and put me out of action for five days. But some speedy rescheduling has paid off, and I'm here in my French paradise. Glad I made the effort!
#photography #france #romeyer #christmas
A mixture of sadness at illness preventing me from travelling to my French paradise at Romeyer right now, but pleasure at seeing this beautiful memory from last Christmas, as the sun rose on my house at Romeyer.
