South Asian Heritage Month 2025. Spotlighting people and local events
Dorothy Noel 'Dorf' Bonarjee was an Indian poet and artist who was known for being awarded a Bardic chair while a student in Wales and for being the first woman internal student to be awarded a law degree by University College London.
Priya Hall is a Welsh-Indian comedian, specialising in stand-up. Based in Cardiff, Priya speaks fluent Welsh and English and her comedy shows have been coined as “hilariously oversharing” by Bristol 24/7.
Safia Middleton-Patel is a Welsh professional footballer who plays as goalkeeper for Manchester United in the Women’s Super League. Safia represented Wales at U17 and U19 in the 2022 UEFA Women’s Championship.

As an awardee of the inaugural Netflix Documentary Talent Fund, they directed a short film called “Peach Paradise”, which premiered on TikTok’s first-ever live film showcase. Shiva’s independent short narrative film “Queer Parivaar” won the BAFTA-qualifying Iris Prize ‘Best British Short’ award, making it available for broadcast and streaming on Channel 4. More recently, Shiva’s latest BAFTA-nominated documentary called ‘Always, Asifa’ (commissioned by Together TV’s Diverse Film Fund) premiered at the BFI’s London Film Festival.
