Well it’s been a crazy month but it’s finally finished. This platter took me over 25 hrs to turn, burn, paint and finish. It’s been a very fun project and now to see what i can get into next.

The painting phase of this project is done. Next i will knock back some of the paint to expose the texture and then it’s on to sanding. Lots and lots of sanding.

Here’s a little progress on the big platter. The woodburning is done and it only took me about 10 hrs. since things went pretty smoothly. Next is to clean up the burn and then get some paint on the texture.

I got down into the shop today and roughed out some smaller 8” Aspen bowl blanks. These things are super wet and they cut like butter. I was able to shape the outside and inside of each of them on only one sharpen. Can’t do that with many woods.

Well now that the brutal cold has headed east it’s time to get back to the mill. Today i milled up a really nice Maple log. It’s got some figure and just a little bit of Spalting which i don’t see much on woods out here in Colorado.
