The bustle feathers are often kept tightly together and hanging down a bit, so it was fun to see how big those feathers are.

A male Greater Sandhill Crane standing in front of some red dogwood branches. He is a large gray bird with a red skin patch on his head, a long beak, and amber eyes. Since I have learned about the many Sandhill Crane subspecies, you may notice that I will reference them more often as the "Greater Sandhill Crane" since that is the main subspecies in Wisconsin. They are the largest Sandhill Crane species coming in at 4 feet tall and weighing about 12 pounds.
