This photo captures a flock of Sandhill Cranes taking off in flight over a wetland habitat beginning their migration north. Numerous large, gray cranes with long necks and legs are captured in various stages of flight, dominating the upper portion of the image. Some birds are flying close to the water, while others are higher in the sky. Sandhill cranes are known for flying with their necks fully outstretched, unlike herons. The lower part of the image features a shallow body of water with muddy marshland banks and some sparse vegetation. The background consists of a dense area of brush and trees. The sky is a pale blue with light clouds.
