Great to see at least 4 Redstart back at Pal y Cwrt yesterday evening. First (pictured) was mostly silent at the base of the valley whilst three more vocal birds were busy chasing each other towards the top. Couple of Green Woodpeckers also. #birdingWales #UKWildlife #birds #birdsSeenIn2026

Cuckoo - honest!

My first Cuckoo sighting of the year today at Pant y Sais when this male flew in calling and perched high up on a distant tree. Later it paused briefly in the reserve proper before moving on again. Couple of Reed Warblers also. #birdingWales #UKWildlife #birds #birdsSeenIn2026

A close-up photograph captures a small, olive-brown willow warbler perched on a blossoming branch. The bird has a distinct pale eyebrow stripe and is looking toward the right, its feathers softly blending with the natural surroundings. It sits amidst delicate white flowers and budding green leaves.

Lovely to hear so many singing black caps after the hail on Saturday at aberthaw. Trying to get a pic of one was a bit challenging but I did see my first willow warbler of the year and managed a quick snap in some decent light.

Popped up to Llyn Llech Owain on Wednesday eve where the highlight was a flock of 5 Redpoll feeding in willows. Most I’ve seen anywhere for a couple of years! Willow Warblers had arrived en masse with at least 20 in fine voice. Prob a gross underestimate. #birdingWales #UKWildlife #birdsSeenIn2026
