This is a black and white landscape photography of mountain peaks in the distance from the Emerald Lake trailhead. The entire scene is covered in thick mountain snow. The sky is cloudy and overcast in colors of grey and white with the clouds intermingled with the rocky snow covered peaks about halfway in the frame. The peaks above the tree line are massive and sharply structured with at least 4 separate peaks rising higher and higher from left to right--each seemingly made up of dark rock, white snow and grey clouds. Below the tree line is a densely populated pine forest with each tree skinny and tall and pointed with snow on the boughs. On the right, the tree lined ridged goes to the top of the frame and a dark cliff face is visible near the top

This color landscape photo is of four sharp granite peaks visible from Emerald Lake. In the foreground is a large tan boulder on the right side of the frame with a thin layer of snow on top and in its various crevasses. Beyond the boulder is a stand of mighty pine trees that tower into the sky. There are at least 14 of them and from this low vantage point, many of them tower into the sky seemingly higher than the peaks themselves given perspective of the photo. Indeed, they offer an interesting symmetry with the peaks themselves with their pointed tops. Byond the trees are the peaks--four of them jutting into the sky, but each of them also have peaks themselves, as if the entire range had spines or spires. The csky is cloudy, but a thin layer of blue is somewhat visible throughout but particularly in the top left corner. The impression it collectively leaves the eye is that of immensity.

My final #MountainMonday photo is from the peaks on one side of Emerald Lake in #RockyMountain NP captured in early December on a very brisk day.

This is color landscape photo of Monument Canyon in the Colorado National Monument, one of our beloved National Parks. The photos taken during the golden hour just before sunset. In the foreground, the layered plateau of red sandstone is at the middle of the frame on the left extending out several feet before tapering down into the canyon below. In front of it is on a red rocked slope headed into the canyon is the skeleton of a juniper tree starting low on the slope and extended up above the plateau--with it's multi-toned spiral twisted layered trunk and branches. Most go up, but pone notable branch goes down the canyon. On the right side in the foreground is the top of a green tree that presumably starts lower on the canyon. Beyond the foreground, you suu an incredibly interest rock formation rising from a leg of the canyon jutting out into the broader valley. While it is a similar layered sandstone, the light has it more orange and it includes a set of flat topped spires of various heights. Beyond this leg is the flat top of the entire Monument canyon in the far distance lit up by the sun and extending across the horizon. Peeking above the flat top are distance snow covered Rocky Mountains. The sky at the horizon goes from a gradient of white to bright blue.

This is a color landscape photo taken of Cathedral Rock in Sedona from across a valley at the bottom of Slippery Rock Trail. The vantage point is level with the bottom of cathedral rock and so it looms large in the frame. Cathedral Rock is centered in the top third of the frame. It is as if the top part of a rock ball is rising from the earth and at the center of the top of the ball a wide column rises up. The rock is a beautiful orange with steep cliffs across the entire front edifice and the sunlight is shining on it from the right off the frame giving large swathes of bright color as well as areas of deep shadow. To the left and behind is another rock formation that is equally prominent but without the distinct cathedral shaping. The land in front of both is made up of the tops of a leafless forest of mostly tan trees punctuated with occasional junipers. In the foreground on the right in front of cathedral rock is a clump of low cactus plants and some tufts of brown prairie grasses. Above the landscape is a deep blue and completely clear sky

This shot of #CathedralRock in #Sedona is from an atypical vantage point taken at sunset--the light was fantastic.
