WWM25 Day 22: Jacket and Phthalo Green Today's watercolor piece is all about *volume* and *whimsy*. The Grantham twins appear again—this time in puffy bubble jackets so large they nearly swallow them whole! I used a deep mix of Phthalo Green and Alizarin Crimson to create a rich, shadowy navy tone for the coats. The hats, pants, and boots are kept bright and warm to balance the cold surroundings. The trees were painted with fast, loose zigzags using juicy Phthalo Green creating a stylized forest that frames the twins like bookends. The snowfall was added with delicate spattering after the paper dried. This is one of my more playful takes this month and it makes me laugh every time I look at it. The exaggerated scale of the coats and the symmetry between the twins gave me just the right setup for a funny little winter tale.

Day 18, prompts "rigid" and Sepia. I painted a picture of some boulders in a forest, something out my memories of hiking around Estes Park, CO. The boulders are a paler sepia mix, some full dark sepia marking edges, cracks, and other shadows. The background is thick with tree trunks in light brown and olive greens, to show distance and give context and atmosphere. The foreground appears sandy, but there are red flowers sprouting up around the rocks. Text on the bottom reads: "2025-07-18 // WWM25 18/21" on the left, '"rigid" + Sepia' in the middle and my sigil on the right.
