At the ongoing European Congress on Tropical Medicine and International Health conference, Dr Osakunor, a Newton Intl Fellow at the #LambertonLab shared about our #capability study on #schistosomiasis.
This is a game changer for how we measure health outcomes for #schisto interventions.
#ECTMIH2025
Today, let’s spotlight #schistosomiasis. Also known as #bilharzia, #schisto is an #NTD affecting over 240 million people globally, especially in sub-Saharan Africa.
Still, a lot of work lays ahead, and each day we are putting in the work towards #schisto #ntd elimination.
After a busy six-week training, the fellows were able to develop statistical and mathematical models, and based on them, they were able to recommend initial strategies towards #schisto elimination, especially in high and moderate endemic health districts.
Can #ClimateChange affect where #Schisto transmission occures? New assessment finds that instead of 21°C, thermal optima for transmission range between 23–27°C, so we can expect 📈 transmission with future warming.
