Yesterday was the opening of the first ever Research Days organized at KASK&Conservatorium in Ghent, loosely structured around the topic of play. The image is bad picture of Luanda Casella's great presentation during the first panel.

In a week, I will give a lecture-performance under the title "The Salt Transistor", sharing some of my research for the installation #79 that I hope to produce in the coming year as a response to a commission by Werktank in Leuven.

Two intense days with nose in the books; almost done with preparing this year's seminar at KASK, entitled 'Vibrant Matter'.

Encountered this passage by Ian Hacking that describes the current state of my crystal projects quite well:

Nice end-of-academic-year presentations of the minor ArtScience at KASK: ten very different projects inspired by objects from the collection of the Ghent University Museum. One example is this 'phosphenes diary' by Febe de Kegel.

One of the personal highlights of today's visit to the Ghent University Museum collections was this mussel in formaldehyde.

A black and white postcard showing a lady with closed eyes and her hands before her shoulders with the palms down. Between her hand we see a floating glass object with liquid. According to the description in French: " ... Miss Tomczyk, medium, lifting a test tube without contact."
The postcard is also publicity for "Le Courier Spirite Belge".

Today we visited the University Museum Ghent with a group of students. Such a cool place !

A recurrent problem of preparing a seminar is that there are so many things that would be interesting to read...

The cover of the (original) French edition of Philippe Bihouix "L'age des low tech, Vers une civilisation techniquement soutenable". Paris: points. Written in 2014. Translated into English and published as "The Age of Low Tech, Towards a Technologically Sustainable Civilization". Bristol University Press.

Preparing the upcoming "Other Machines" seminar at KASK in Ghent. An appropriate moment to revisit this one.
