Dusky Warbler on Tresco showed well yesterday until I picked up my camera! At least you can see what it is. Super day out with 72 species including YB Warbler, Ring-n Duck, Spoonbill, Black T Diver, 2 Sibe Chiffs, 3 Firecrest, Purple Sandpiper, Cattle Egret and a Red Admiral butterfly #scillybirding
After the rain stopped I was scanning Porth Cressa / Little Porth from home to see what was about when this Bluethroat popped up with the gang of Black Redstarts. Somewhat of a surprise to say the least. A quick trip outside gave me some better views. #Scillybirding
Well, the first Scilly teachers week in a decade was the quietest I’ve ever known, but it was still a lot of fun, good food, craic, company and the few birds there. Islands were as pretty as I remember them.

After a long weekend lost in fevered delirium I was still in my PJs when the guys called "we've found an Eyebrowed Thrush at Porthloo". Me "yeah - right!" However, regretting those years bunking off school x-country, I was soon on-site and the camera suggests I was not hallucinating😵💫 #ScillyBirding

A Ring Ouzel, a brown thrush like bird in a ploughed field.
A Ring Ouzel (brown thrush like bird) running away from a Blackbird, its bigger cousin.
Loved watching this unusually confiding Ring Ouzel on St Mary’s, Scilly, today. I so rarely see them, let alone like this. Third shot shows it having been chased by its Blackbird cousin - what a size difference! #scillybirding
Prickly Stick Insect (Acanthoxyla geisovii), St Mary's Churchyard, Isles of Scilly
Friday pm, a romp around St Mary's, finding Prickly Stick Insect (Acanthoxyla geisovii) in the Churchyard, the airport for Lapland Bunting & Porth Hellick beach for Common Rosefinch associating with Chaffinches, Bramblings & Linnets. Returning in a fever with a savage dose of man flu. #ScillyBirding

Black-necked Grebe, off Tresco, Isles of Scilly
A few shots from Friday's mini pelagic onboard Joe Pender's MV Sapphire out past Bryher to Pol Bank and the Bishop Rock (Men an Epskop) Lighthouse and then back along the Western Rocks and Tresco. #ScillyBirding
Long-billed wading birds - Snipe - at the edge of some boggy ground.
After yesterday’s Jack Snipe, here are some Common Snipe on St Mary’s, Isles of Scilly. Wonderful to see these birds so close up. #scillybirding
More highlights from our first 2 days on Scillies. The Spotted Sandpiper in Saint Wama's Cove & American (Buff-bellied) Pipit with M'ippits in the cow fields at end of Barnaby Lane, both on St Agnes & 2 Jack Snipe on Lower Moors, St Mary's, members of a large influx onto the Islands #Scillybirding
Mourning Dove, St Agnes, Isles of Scilly
Yep, I'm afraid it's Scilly season again. After yesterday's brief flight view only of the MoDo on St Agnes., today it was a wee bit better. #Scillybirding
Small wading bird - a Jack Snipe - feeding in water.

Two small wading birds - Jack Snipe - feeding in water.
Three small wading birds resting and preceding at water’s edge.
It wouldn’t be October on Scilly without a Jack Snipe… and this year there are lots of them, some showing incredibly well. These three were later joined by another that flew in while I was watching them. #scillybirding

Wilson's Phalarope
After getting to St. Mary's, Scilly, one of the first birds we saw was this wonderful WILSON'S PHALAROPE that showed rather well. #scillybirding #birds #birding #BirdsSeenIn2025 #RareBirdsUK
Red-breasted Flycatcher
Spotted Sandpiper
Lapland Bunting
The supporting cast on St. Agnes, Scilly last week: RED-BREASTED FLYCATCHER, SPOTTED SANDPIPER & LAPLAND BUNTING. #scillybirding #birds #birding #BirdsSeenIn2025 #RareBirdsUK

Eurasian Hoopoe
St. Agnes certainly was the place to be last week. As well as Mourning Dove & American Pipit we had insane views of this EURASIAN HOOPOE. #scillybirding #birds #birding #BirdsSeenIn2025 #RareBirdsUK
American Pipit
American Pipit
American Pipit & Meadow Pipit (right)
Our group enjoyed point blank views of this AMERICAN PIPIT on St. Agnes, Scilly last week and was our 3rd seen on UK tours (previously 1 Scilly & 1 Devon). Nice comparison with Meadow Pipit in last shot. #scillybirding #birds #birding #BirdsSeenIn2025 #RareBirdsUK

Mourning Dove
Now back home from a wonderful tour to the Isles of Scilly where the undoubted highlight was this MOURNING DOVE on St. Agnes. A new UK bird for the all the clients and one that wasn't on our radar when we started the trip! #scillybirding #birds #birding #BirdsSeenIn2025 #RareBirdsUK
Thankfully the Mourning Dove on St Agnes hung around long enough for me to see it this afternoon. A welcome addition to my list 😀

Buff-bellied ( American) Pipit
Hoopoe
A visit to St Agnes this morning saw some good birds , but sadly the Mourning Dove went missing again. Still, any morning with Buff-bellied ( American) Pipit, Hoopoe and 3 Firecrests can't be bad.

Scilly Day 3:- A beautiful sunny day with the wind gradually easing. Paid homage to the Wilson's Phalarope again. Also Yellow-Browed Warbler and American Pipit. #scillybirding
Scilly Day 2:- Very blowy and therefore challenging but not a bad day with Short-Eared Owl, Glossy Ibis, 2 Spotted Flycatchers, Pied Flycatcher and Rosy Starling. #scillybirding
Nice to find this Rustic Bunting with the Mrs this evening on St Martin’s, Isles of Scilly. A subtle bird, in some ways, compared to obvious autumn males. Looks to be same bird found on St Agnes yesterday when comparing feather details. #ScillyBirding
Hoopoe at Salakee
Dotterel and Buff-breasted Sandpiper on the Airport.
Its not a bad days birding on Scilly when one can see Dotterel and Buff-breasted Sandpiper together, a Pec Sand a 10 min walk away; find a Hoopoe on the way back and then see 38 Glossy Ibis from the house. What a day. #Scillybirding #ukbirding
Scilly seems to be having multiple Turtle Dove sightings this Spring. These 4 birds have been on St Martin’s for the last few days, but incredibly skittish! Fingers crossed it’s a successful breeding year in UK. #ScillyBirding
Shore Lark
female Northern Wheatear
Thankfully the Shore Lark that was found last Weds hung around for me to photograph today. Although its the 4th I have seen here its the first I have photographed. There were also more Wheatears around which are always good to see. #Scillybirding
Photo of the Quail I found earlier on Scilly taken by Mark Baker! #ukbirding #scillybirding
Flushed a Quail on Lower Moors Scilly, a big full fat Scilly tick! #ukbirding #scillybirding also seconds of the Shore Lark!
After a mad dash to the airfield this morning to see the Shore Lark (a Scilly "tick") it was nice to spend time this evening watching it feed on its favoured section of footpath. Remarkably Shore Larks are rarer on the islands than either Red-eyed Vireo or Radde's Warbler! #ukbirding #scillybirding
