A humongous vintage 1960s 70s handmade sterling silver and carved azurmalachite stone pre-Columbian Mayan/Aztec figure design brooch by Sergio Hernandez in Taxco. An exceptional entirely handmade brooch with a beautiful hand carved azurmalachite stone 'face' with elaborate silverwork surrounding it with headdress, earrings, and dangles below! Really quite an elaborate and impressive piece! Measures 4.25" tall by 1-7/8" widest point, and weighs 55 grams total. Marked at back as shown, "Sergio" for Sergio Hernandez, along with "Sterling SCH Taxco Hecho en Mexico, design number "149", and the Eagle 3 stamp for Taxco makers. The Plateria Sergio Hernandez was in business in Taxco from about 1960 to 1990 or thereabouts, and the business is still in operation and now run by his son in Cozumel. They made high quality jewelry with original designs often based on pre-Columbian Mayan and Aztec art and architectural elements. An impressive brooch that could be worn as a pendant too with the addition of a pendant converter that simply slips onto the pin stem adding a bail for wearing as a pendant. These are available online very inexpensively. Would look amazing on a neckring or a chain! Excellent vintage condition.

A big and bold vintage 1960s 70s handmade sterling silver and carved tigereye quartz Mexican modernist pre-Columbian -inspired design pendant necklace by Sergio Hernandez in Taxco. The carved tigereye quartz 'face' is bezel set at the center of a geometric pre-Columbian -inspired design with a Mexican modernist twist, and hangs on the original handmade sterling chain. The pendant measures 2-3/8" tall by just over 1-3/4" wide. The carved stone measures just under 7/8" tall by just over 1/2" wide. The pendant hangs on the original 22" sterling chain. Total weight for the necklace is 36 grams. Marked at back as shown, "Sterling SCH Taxco Hecho en Mexico", with design number "215", and the Eagle 3 stamp for Taxco makers. The chain is marked "925" for sterling silver, and with the design number "215" matching the pendant, and some other marks that are too worn or badly struck to make out although one of them is probably an Eagle mark. An impressive pendant necklace that could be worn on a neckring or a black cord for a different look, or even slipped on a pin to wear as a brooch on a jacket or a hat! Excellent vintage condition.
