I had another look and was able to identify the sheezy setting that caused this issue.
"Add Inbox Items to my Notifications Count", when active, slows down a simple refresh to currently 10s.
Deactivating this option lets the website refresh with a second.

Went digging for a workaround for the #sheezyart site lag and tried this, not a total fix but works for me.
