Curious about ancient superstition? Our replica Roman phallus is now in the Advent Sale. A mix of faith, hope and a strong wish for protection or good fortune, but too rude for Social Media apparently.

SALE 🕯️✨
Today’s highlight is a Roman lamp recreated from a sherd found at Rathgureen, County Galway. Though Ireland was never part of the Roman Empire, this rare lamp shows Roman influence reached those shores.

Image of a minature roman cermic pot, held between my finger and thumb. The pot is incomplete but does show the complete profile from rim to base. The pot is grey in colour, with an oxidised core, and there is a possible trace of the makers finger print just above the base on the outside vessel wall.
How's this for a lovely little #roman pot for #FindsFriday #archaeology. Looks like a possible finger print just above the base? #sherdnerd

Roman pottery reference collection of pot snips for identification of Roman pottery from sites in and around York.
I share my office with a #sherdnerd My favourite thing is his reference collection. Wee snips of pot, 100s, nay 1000s of them, sorted by ware type & location! This is only part of his reference collection just for Roman period York 🤩😱
I'm just jealous. His collection smells way better than mine 😆🦴

I’m also an #amphora geek! Look at this huge Dressel 20 olive oil amphora sherd that I met at Newcastle University’s Birdoswald #excavation earlier this year.
Big boi ❤️
