i feel him stretch before my eyes open, in that way that looks like it would fix my spine, if only I could too. My eyes open, and he's already observing me, tipped by the change in my breath that i am awake. someone else fed him; he is content. he twitches his whiskers, turns his golden eyes back to the window, and so do I - we watch the world pass, safe in a timeless summer morning, sharing a moment where only we understand what's hidden behind one-way glass.
