When my mom passed away last year I took a few of these ornaments from my childhood and then when my MIL passed in April I had the opportunity to obtain 2 boxes of them. The ones from my childhood are wrapped in newspaper dated Dec 31, 1963.

Inside of a 1955 Shiny Brite Christmas ornament box that's falling apart. Several divider pieces of the cardboard have completely separated and are laying on the table next to the rest of the frame, which is torn and broken. Dusty glass red, blue, and aqua-colored ball ornaments are in the lid to the left of the box interior.
The 1955 Shiny Brite Christmas ornament box now has all its pieces back in place and is holding blue and aqua glass ball ornaments. Several vintage wire ornament hangers and a small paper retail tag that says "Jolly 49 cents" is in the bottom of the box.
AND I was able to do some light restoration on the inside of the 1955 box! I had to match up the loose pieces and figure out where each one went. It's now complete and stable for a few more years. Going to enter this, and the rest of my #shinybrite collection, in next year's county fair.
A rare Shiny Brite Christmas ornament box from 1955 featuring a green tree with red ornaments and Uncle Sam shaking hands with Santa. This is known as the "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year box" because of the two red ornaments near the top of the box lid which have those sayings on them. This box was only used for about two years because in 1957 the clear cellophane tree box was introduced, which was much more popular because customers could see the ornaments inside.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, but an amazing thrift find, the best of the year! A rare 1955 Shiny Brite 2-color box for just $3. My search for this one is over! I saw some ratty mismatched ornaments, then turned the box over to reveal a treasure. More info in alt text. #shinybrite
