Over the break I visited an in person Shoney’s and was able to get a Shoney’s Bear plushie.
@macro-scopic.bsky.social had never remembered being at a Shoney’s before (and had only heard of them from Rick and Morty), but I used to get these all the time.

A dilapidated Shoney’s sign sits above a smaller sign that says “closed due to Covid 19 Reopen Soon”. The photo is in black and white and was taken August 10th 2025 in Troutville, VA. The Shoney’s itself was torn down a few months back and a Popeye’s is opening on that spot soon. I wanted to get this photo to preserve this moment in time because it tells so many stories. Covid, failed restaurants, crumbling buildings, and moments lost to history. At one point on this spot someone probably happily carried out a Shoney’s bear after getting dinner. It’s weird to think that one day this place closed for the pandemic and then just…faded away.
