Rain falls on a small thatched-roof house on gloomy, foggy autumn day. In the foreground, rain has puddled across the uneven ground; on our left, tall trees are reduced to silhouettes by the diminished light, and a solitary little house is tucked in beneath them. Just beyond, two travelers - one on foot, one riding a horse, both wearing broad straw hats as their only protection against the weather - walk past. Further on, more trees are obscured by fog. Above, the sky is overcast and gray, and rain continues to fall across the scene
