I do rotator cuff exercises a couple of times a week. This one is internal rotation and I have another exercise for external rotation. #agingshouldntsuck #startwhereyouare #shoulderreplacementrecovery
Aging feels a lot different if you’re working to hang on to and build strength. If you stop exercising you start losing ground. The best solution is to find a way to enjoy exercise. #agingshouldntsuck #startwhereyouare #shoulderreplacementrecovery
I lost a fair amount of core and upper body strength while I was recovering from shoulder replacement. I’m progressing with physical therapy and getting to the gym a little more often and that feels great. #agingshouldntsuck #startwhereyouare #shoulderreplacementrecovery

It’s been about 9 months since I had my shoulder replaced and I’m loving the new shoulder but I still have some work to do. Prior to having it replaced 6-8 pull ups were doable but now 1 or 2 is a struggle. Goals. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck #shoulderreplacementrecovery
Right after I had my shoulder replaced I wondered how long before it would feel normal and it’s been about 6 months and it’s feeling so much better. Still not doing as many chin ups as before but working on it. #agingshouldntsuck #exercisesnacks #shoulderreplacementrecovery
Having my shoulder replaced wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be but it’s no picnic. It is definitely preferable over the pain and loss of function that can happen with prolonged bone on bone. Rehab makes a world of difference. #agingshouldntsuck #shoulderreplacementrecovery
This is part of my shoulder rehab. I think it’s important to let your physical therapist know what you want to be able to do after rehab. You both need to be aligned on your goals and what it’s going to take to get there. #agingshouldntsuck #shoulderreplacementrecovery #afriendlynudge
This is one of the toughest ones that I’ve done in a while. It’s probably in the “not yet” category if you have balance or stability issues or you’re just someone with good judgement. #agingshouldntsuck #shoulderreplacementrecovery #afriendlynudge
Both my surgeon and my physical therapist said that with patience, work and time I should be able to get back to regular chin ups and pull ups. And I played 9 holes of golf on Saturday with my son so I’m delighted with the progress. #agingshouldntsuck #shoulderreplacementrecovery
The first few days after I had my shoulder replaced were rough but once that first week passed it’s gotten better every day. I know everyone’s experience is different but I’m amazed at the difference it’s made. #agingshouldntsuck #afriendlynudge #shoulderreplacementrecovery
You never fully appreciate how othen you use your arms to move around or prop yourself up on an elbow until those options are off the table for a while. It gives you a whole new level of gratitude for core strength. #shoulderreplacementrecovery #agingshouldntsuck #digthewellbeforeyourethirsty
I’m trying to find the right balance between avoiding activity that would jeopardize my shoulder recovery and maintaining enough activity to support overall health. Luc Van Loon has some interesting research about muscle loss with older adults. #shoulderreplacementrecovery #agingshouldntsuck
It’s critical that we don’t overestimate our ability or under estimate risk, but inactivity also carries a risk. Go slow and gradually build capacity. #dontbiteoffmorethanyoucanchew #agingshouldntsuck #shoulderreplacementrecovery #afriendlynudge
This is a table slide and i do it 6-8 times a day. It’s supposed to reduce scar tissue or adhesion formation. My recovery has surpassed my wildest expectations. I wasted a lot of time worrying about this. #shoulderreplacementrecovery #agingshouldntsuck #afriendlynudge
A shoulder replacement means having your arm out of commission for a while. Being able to get up with just one hand or no hands is reassuring. Dig the well before you’re thirsty. #agingshouldntsuck #shoulderreplacementrecovery #mobility
It’s easy to get carried away. I had years of almost constant shoulder pain and now it’s virtually pain free. It’s tempting to push it but I’ve seen that movie before and hate the way it ends up. #followingmyownadviceistough #agingshouldntsuck #shoulderreplacementrecovery
Recovering from something like a shoulder replacement is in itself a balancing act. You want to return to some level of activity and you have to be mindful not to try too much too quick. #agingshouldntsuck #balancetraining #shoulderreplacementrecovery #afriendlynudge #abalancedyou
Joint replacement is definitely major surgery but I’m beyond pleased with what the recovery process has been like. I definitely wasn’t as prepared as I could have been but Jude has been a huge help. So glad I finally moved forward with this.
