Text Box:

Silva Cataracta has always been uncomfortable sharing the story of how she received the scars on her back and openly displaying them for others to see, even if it's been a little over two years since that ill-fated day. The trauma from the near-fatal encounter is still too present in her soul. The pain they still cause her is only a reminder of weakness. How ugly and deep the marks are. But when Hien accidentally stumbles upon Silva resting in her and Ricmorn's shared room in the Doman Enclave with the old wounds on full display, she realizes there is no point in avoiding the subject any longer with him, now that they’re courting.

She and Ricmorn take some time to tell him the tale behind them, and he, in turn, offers the shy woman comfort she never expected.

A reminder that she is more than the scars decorating her skin — that they and she are beautiful. Always.

But when he left a third love bite where her left shoulder and neck met, a patch of skin so sensitive that it made Silva jump, it was time for her to return the favor.

A low grunt came from him when the hand resting against his neck suddenly found his hair. "Silva?" he questioned, slightly concerned. Heat flickered in her sea-green eyes when their gazes met briefly.

"At ease, [my heart…]" Silva murmured. "Everything is just right."

And it was. It really was — perfection.

Silva felt him shudder as she threaded her fingers into the silky black strands again, her fingers gently massaging his scalp in slow circles. He relaxed almost instantly, a hum rumbling deep in Hien's chest. Good. He deserved to melt too — to be loved with absolute care. She took a chance while her touch distracted him to place kisses wherever she saw fit — his jaw, neck, along his collarbone, and shoulders. Anywhere her lips could comfortably reach. Her horns drank in the pleased sounds he made for her, loving how his pulse would jump when she carefully grazed her fangs and blunt teeth against his skin. Even the way he let out a choked gasp when she gifted him with a few love bites and ran her tongue over the deep scarlet marks made her blood run hot in her veins.

But she saved the sweetest kisses for the scars decorating his skin. Marks and notches from wounds and scratches from a time before adulthood, the scars faded and blended into his skin tone. Days spent training under the heat of the sun and playing as a child.

Like the criss-crossed scar above his right eye. Silva knew the tale behind that one. Hien told her he obtained that while protecting Yugiri from one of the magical guards guarding the inner sanctum of Swallow's Compass. He wore a similar, larger one on his right shoulder. But she didn't know the story about that one, not yet, at least.

She would ask Hien about it the next time they were together and not… handsy with one another.

Others, however, were fresher. Newer. Various shades of pink or red from battles she knew of and rougher instruction as he helped young recruits to the Doman army. Scrapes and cuts from helping rebuild the Enclave with his people.

A few of them he got while helping her build his private garden behind his home — their private garden.

But the scar that gained her attention the most was the one on the left side of his lower abdomen; a gnarled knot of healed muscle and flesh. The near-fatal wound given to him by Zenos during the failed Doman Rebellion, when rage, fear, and adrenaline took over after watching his father die. One last effort for his nation and people — for freedom. Cirina and her grandmother healed it when Hien was in their care during his time in the Azim Steppe. An injury that took months to become what it is now.

It was a reminder that they both lived through situations that should have killed them, but now decorate their skin. Scars of sacrifice.

Silva paused, letting the thought settle. When it did, like a steady rain shower hitting colored-terracotta roof tiles, her fingers gently ran over the long-healed wound. She didn't realize what she was doing until she heard her beloved lord take a breath. But he didn't stop her ministrations. No, Hien let her, curious and touched. He watched her trace over the rough edges of skin, the slight dip where muscle never healed perfectly. Feather-light. Unhurried. Where the injury met unmarred flesh and strong bone.

Hien felt the love Silva poured into each graze.

A few minutes later, her hand shifted to rest over his heart, curiosity sated for now. He wondered if she had questions of her own about it. Questions Hien wanted her to ask so he could answer, just like she did with him with the scars on her back.

If she did, Silva said nothing, letting the silence speak for her with the promise of later.

I can't remember for the life of me if I posted this little moment between Silva and Hien, where she gently touches/examines his scars, so just in case...

I really do love this 🥹

After Hien removed his colorful dogi, the sashes that held it closed, and thick leather arm and leg guards, he quietly walked over to Silva, not wanting to waste any more time. He took small, measured steps to make sure he didn't disturb her, and carefully knelt on the ground beside the bed. His lips curved up in a smile when he heard faded snores leave her, brushing stray strands of her purple hair out of her face and back behind her ivory horn. He slowly counted the freckles that littered across her cheek as he watched her, something he had always found to relax him after a long day.

Kami— She looked so peaceful — so beautiful — like this, resting in his bed and tangled up in his sheets. Where she was safe. The late afternoon sunshine peaking through the windows gave her slumbering form an ethereal glow and warmed her skin where it touched. The tip of her long tail sneaked out from under the covers again and lazily swayed every so often. Silva was a vision. His ears picked up on the faint, pleased sounds that rumbled in her throat when she would nuzzle her face against his pillow or pull the blankets closer to her, sighing happily before settling down.

This… This was a sight Hien would never forget, one he wished would greet him every morning for the rest of his days. He was grateful for the rare chance to watch over her for a little while instead of the other way around for once. To protect her from the world, instead. It was a thought that made soft chuckles shake his shoulders and chest.

Because how silly was that?

And to think that when the young lord went to bed later that night, he would breathe in her scent of fresh Doman orchids and lilies as he dreamed away — dreamed of her.

Hien wouldn't need to go to their garden or favorite patch of wildflowers to be reminded of her.

"[It does my heart good to know you got some much-needed rest. That you came to me for this. The amount of trust you have in me to do so in the first place… I am the luckiest person in the world right now to have someone as you love and care for me the way you do, Wildflower,]" he murmured, his fingertips grazing lightly against her slightly flushed cheek as he closed his eyes. Another sigh left him. "[I only hope I offer you the same amount of love in return. That you know deep down how much you truly mean to me.]"

I hope you know you make me forget about my troubles and calm my spirit every time we are together, he thought afterward. I am a better man today because of you — I owe you so much for it.

"[You do and more, my heart. I promise,]" said a quiet, sleep-filled voice after a minute.

Bright peridot eyes snapped open to find half-lidded, vibrant sea-green ones looking up at him, the late afternoon sun making them glow the prettiest color he had ever seen. Silva gave him a loving smile as her lithe fingers caught his wrist to press a kiss to the inside of his palm before his hand gently cupped her face.

Hien melted a little when she nuzzled into his touch.

"[For it is I who should be feeling lucky that I have not one, but two men who see me for who I am and love me deeply. Men who care and have loyalty beyond measure. One of them is a remarkable and humble king who looks after his people and his nation with great pride. The other is a Warrior of Light like myself. Both could have whoever they wanted in the world, and instead, they decided they both wanted me. That I was worthy.]"

"[It's because you are worthy of that love, Wildflower.]"

His ears picked up on the quiet sigh of relief slipping from her, his mouth curving into a smile as he leaned down to give her a sweet kiss on her soft lips. The smile he wore twisted into a grin when he felt her fingertips trail along his jawline as she returned the kiss. Sharp, pleasant sparks of levin chased after her touch, stealing his breath. He stole another kiss from her. And then another. Slowly, the longing sitting in his chest dissolved. "You are always welcome to come here, Silva," the young lord assured her when they broke apart, the pad of his thumb brushing against her flushed skin. A quiet gasp slipped past her lips at his words. “No matter what the reason. Nor the time of day. My space and home are yours to find whatever it is you need.”

Rest. Solitude. A place for her to be human and process her emotions and thoughts. Reassurance that she was deeply loved. Strength within his arms and heart.

And Hien would hate it if his lover felt like she couldn't come to him for anything, for whatever reason. There would always be a safe space for Silva.

“Well… unless you are hiding here instead of running around and saving the world,” he added teasingly, earning himself a few light laughs from the woman. Oh, Hien missed the sweet sound. A chime of bells that instantly brightened the room. “Then I will gently coax you to return to where you need to be and seek me out another time.”

Silva pouted. "Would you really, Hien? Here I was thinking you would be overjoyed to see me, no matter the case. I can't believe what I'm hearing."

Amusement flickered in his peridot eyes, betraying his words. "Well… as long as it wasn't too pressing a matter, then maybe you could convince me to keep you tucked away. Keep me distracted from the mundane for a while." And then he paused, thinking. His delight turned to weariness as Hien regarded her. "Wait— Silva, are you really—"

A bark of laughter escaped Silva as she shook her head. "Heavens no!" She pressed herself closer to Hien, trilling softly, wanting to soothe him. He relaxed at the gentle sound. “No. I’m not running from my duties. I promise,” she assured, raising a small hand to lightly tap her fingertips against the sturdy metal chest plate under his colorful dogi. His hand covered hers seconds later, the heat of his skin sinking into hers. A grounding touch she didn't know she needed. "Not this time, anyway. Today, I just..."

Her voice vanished as her expression faltered.

"Silva?" He tilted his head to the side, waiting for her to continue with her thoughts. "You just..?"

But it didn't stop Hien's mind from wandering as he waited.

Why was she suddenly here? If Silva teleported to the Doman Enclave with little to no warning, and not with Ricmorn or her Scion companions instead, then… something was wrong. (Unless Ricmorn had sent her here to get away from a situation. It wouldn't have been the first time.) Something she didn't feel she could shoulder alone. And he couldn’t help but worry when he saw tears gather in her eyes.

His heart ached.

A shaky exhale left Silva. “The world is quiet for once, yet I… find that my mind is not. Hien, I’m… I am not—”

I am not okay, far from it. And you were the first person I thought of running to. You are the only one who would understand the reason why I did.

Those were the words on the tip of her tongue that refused to leave her lips. Fear, shame, and worry wouldn't let them loose. Silva would have laughed at herself for how defeated she felt if she had the energy for it. For how deeply it cut. Her heart clenched painfully in silent agreement. All she could do was hope and pray he could understand what she was trying to say instead.

Thankfully, whether it was the will of the gods or the kami, he put the pieces together himself.

I will never stop loving that even though Silva is anxious to go to Hien about bad things/needing to talk/wanting a place to rest in peace, she still goes to him anyway because he is safety to her 🥹 Especially in the early days of their relationship

“You can use the washroom first, [Wildflower,]” Hien told her when she looked at him again. “Take whatever time you need to feel settled again.” A soft grunt escaped him when Silva threw her arms around his neck and carefully pressed an ivory horn to his cheek. A gesture that said more than words could. He wasn’t expecting it, but he loved it and returned her sweet embrace.

“Thank you again, [my heart,]” she whispered beside his ear, grinning from horn to horn when the powerful arms wrapped around her middle gave her a gentle squeeze. "For today — everything."

He pressed a soft kiss to her temple, humming. "Anytime, darling."

But before she left him, there was one thing Hien needed to do…

"Silva— Give me a moment before getting up."

"Hm?"

Silva let Hien carefully shift her in his lap, just enough to have her right shoulder and upper back closer to his face. The start of a question was on the tip of her tongue, confused. But it turned to dust when his lips found the smooth-jagged edge of one of the larger scars decorating the skin on her back. A quiet gasp slipped past her lips when he continued, leaving feather-light kisses behind. When his mouth couldn't go further down that scar, he moved to another, repeating the gesture with care. Slowly. With love and intention. And Silva felt all of it.

Her eyes grew wet, a shaky laugh tumbling from her. "H-Hien… you don't need to—"

"I know. I want to," Hien murmured against her skin. He dragged his lips down the silvery line of healed scar tissue before speaking again. "I will always want to, Silva."

Her mind flashed to the night the young lord accidentally saw the old wounds on her back in their full glory — to the things he said and the truth his words held.

"They are beautiful, [Wildflower.] So beautiful. Not because they are a part of you, but also because of the meaning behind why you have them in the first place — love. There's no need to feel any shame about your scars whatsoever."

Another burst of watery laughter came from her, a few tears escaping afterward, but heavens, her heart was full. She stayed still, letting Hien press kisses along what scarred skin he could easily reach for as long as he'd like, sniffling quietly as he retraced his path.

Ricmorn remained silent during their special moment, humming in approval, happy to let them have it.

Once Hien finished, his lips found the patch of ivory scales below Silva's right horn. And even though she cleared her throat several times, a chance for her to collect herself again, her voice was thick with emotion. "Thank you for that, too, Hien."

"You're very welcome, Silva," Hien murmured, wiping away her tears.

To let her take whatever she needed from him to ease the deep ache in her center that made her tremble.

“[P-please! My heart—]” she begged in Doman — pleaded — and did not care how needy she sounded. Not when searing desire licked up her spine. Not when she needed his hands and mouth all over her burning body, and he answered it. And certainly not when Hien grinned wickedly against her, knowing what he was doing to her. "[Kami— Hien, please!]"

Gods, Silva couldn’t believe Hien sought to reduce her to begging him now.

She felt his pleased hum against her skin, giving the dark blue-gray nipple one last harsh suckle before letting it go with a wet pop. Another low whine left her when he ran his tongue over the tender flesh. Such a pretty sound to his ears. “[Please, what, Wildflower?]” Hien mused when his face was above hers again, taking her bottom lip between his blunt teeth and lightly tugging on it. "[Go faster? Stay slow? Yes, no, maybe so?]" Hien grinned at her low groan. And when he caught the hot flash of hunger in her sea-green eyes, he gave her a lazy roll of his hips and devoured the frustrated sound that left her lips. “[Speak, Silva. Tell me your desires. What is it you need from me, hm? Perhaps I have an answer…]”

"[Kami— Hien, please!]" Gods, Silva couldn’t believe Hien sought to reduce her to begging him now. What is it you need from me, hm? Perhaps I have an answer…]”

So, Hien telling Silva how she haunts him while they're being intimate is still stupid hot to me, but this "Go faster? Stay slow? Yes, no, maybe so?" line has me in a choke hold and wanting to tear something to shreads 🥵

His words went straight to her aching core, set her ablaze. Silva growled in response to them, the sound feral as she let her hips move on their own accord against him with the help of his tight grip. A slow teasing grind to drive them further into madness. "[You say that as if you don't haunt me, my heart,]" she counted, biting Hien's lower lip until he groaned - and the things that rumbling sound did to her. "[That I don't picture you behind my eyes when I'm alone and craving your hands all over me. Because I do, Hien.]"

She did, more times than Silva would admit.
The intense heat she saw flashing in his eves made her rub her thighs together.

And... her only warning.

A sound left him - something
between a growl and a bark of deep laughter, a promise. Hien's talented mouth left hers to roam around her neck and throat. finding all the sensitive spots that left her utterly breathless. A nip here, a wet kiss and drag of tongue there. Another harsher bite that Silva knew she wouldn't be able to hide with clothes. And the bastard had the nerve to grin against her skin with a mumbled "oops" afterward. Her mind spun, and she was sure he decorated her skin with more beautiful love bites that would need to be tended to later. ( Not that she cared or minded at all in the heat of the moment. A problem for a future version of her. Only then did his lips wander along her collarbone and down her chest to take a stiff nipple into his mouth, and sharp sparks of levin danced along her nerves. The sudden action tore all sorts of broken noises and cries of his name from the back of her throat as he suckled and nibbled to his heart's
content.

And by the gods, did she fucking love
it.

But the wicked swirl of his tongue around her nipple made her hips buck into his. the thought of recentering herself vanishing with it. "[Don't you dare stop, Hien. Don't you fucking-]"

Silva wouldn't forgive Hien if he did She'd curse him. Kick and snarl in frustration for leaving her to deal with the raging desire in her veins as if it wasn't his fault.

But he didn't. Thank the gods and kami he didn't.

The vibration of his elated hum against her sensitive skin at hearing her cry out because of him was absolutely maddening. She sighed arching her back for more. And the heat simmering in her lower belly reminded her of its presence. Bubbling and carving a larger space for itself. Even the long, silky strands of his hair tickling against her chest and abdomen added another layer of sensation. Feather-light, yet it left tingles in its wake.

A push-pull of feelings. A current in a winding river that she let herself ride with open arms because she was with him.

What if... What if she didnt want him to stop? At least, not vet.

Surely she could be a little selfish for once.

Silva hoped her other lover felt the same as she returned his caresses, although timider, with her own as they continued exchanging eager, fervent kisses.

Her fingertips ran over the hard planes of his chest and broad shoulders before trailing one hand up his neck. Slowly and with care. Easy Loving the soft moan that ghosts over her lips. Her other hand grazed down his toned body and stopped just above his navel, fingers trembling. Silva didn't even realize her hand slightly shook until she felt his fingers wrap around her delicate wrist, pausing her wandering touches and their

Concern flickered in his eyes.

"[You are shaking, Wildflower,]" Hien pointed out, his gaze scanning over her flushing face to make sure nothing was amiss. It wasn't iust her hand that shook. but her entire frame. His knuckles trailed up and down her spine in soothing motions. "[Is this too fast? Too much, too soon for you? Tell me, please.]"

She shook her head. a round of bright giggles bubbling up from her chest as she rushed to pacify him this time. "[No- Heavens no! This is not too fast or too much.]" The look of relief painting his features at her reassurance made her smile, her long tail swishing with glee behind her when he brought her palm to his lips. "[This is just right, Hien. Absolutely perfect, and it feels so... natural to be like this with you. So nice and loved.]"

Nope, nope, nope. Now was certainly not the time for this.

Before she could let her mind wander too far into dangerous territory, Silva played with the blue-green jasper beaded bracelet on her right wrist. The cool beads twisted and turned smoothly under her fingers, slowly grounding her.

"Nervous, my friend? Some last-minute jitters?"

The question snapped Silva from her thoughts. "Huh?" She turned to her left, finding Hien had joined her while her attention was elsewhere. A hint of amusement danced in his peridot eyes when their gazes met, and she felt warmth flood her cheeks. Her fingers let go of her bracelet. "Ah— Perhaps a little," she answered with a light laugh. She fought the urge to return to playing with the bracelet again, her fingers twitching. "Though some anxiety is mixed with it, too, I'll admit. But I'll be fine once the fighting begins."

The thrill of battle and magic rushing through her veins had a strange way of settling her. It turned off the louder parts of her brain and forced her to focus on something more important — life and death. Saving lives and giving those facing oppression a new, brighter future.

But Silva knew it was more than that this time, that this battle was different. She had something to prove— something to gain. Wounds to heal. Heavy grief to let go of and find some semblance of peace within her heart and soul.

She could help give a new generation of Domans something she and Hien never had here.

A curious hum sounded from the young lord. "I see."

"That's not… odd, is it?" she asked him. Without thinking, her fingers returned to her bracelet, feeling the smooth glide of blue-green jasper beads against her skin. "For me to be anxious or nervous or both of those things while trying to remain brave? No matter how many times I find myself in this position, it's… it doesn't get any easier."

Silva silently prayed it never would. That there would be a day in the future where conquest wasn't the first option for nations across the star. If it ever did get easier, something within her was broken.

Hien shook his head. "No. It's perfectly understandable in my mind," he said with honesty. He understood what Silva was feeling all too well. How difficult it was to keep her mind from racing and overthinking how this could all go. His voice fell when he spoke again. "The things we've seen here. What we both have lost in the chaos and the pain it left behind… I can safely admit that you're not the only one who's feeling that way at this very moment, Silva. Pray remember you're not alone. We'll get through it, I know we will."

Soft laughter spilled from her lips, the corners of her mouth curving into a small smile. "You have that much faith in me, hm?" Silva couldn't help but wonder. She couldn't help but be curious about the answer, even if she already knew it. "In me, Ricmorn, and the rest of the Scions?"

"I do," he answered immediately, returning her smile.

The frankness in his low voice made her heart flutter, easing some of her worries. She let her bracelet go, taking a deep breath, choosing to clasp her hands together instead.

"Thank you, Hien…" she whispered.

"Of course, I'm… always happy to help lift your spirits when needed."

Hien let out a deep chuckle when the Auri woman forced herself to tear her mouth away from him, heavy pants leaving her as she tried to catch her breath. Silva's half-lidded eves were wild and smoldering.

"Fuck-"

"Already breathless, I see," he teased, gently tugging her bottom lip with his teeth. The wicked heat in her gaze grew. "Perfect." That's exactly what he wanted and what she asked for. Hien stole one last kiss from her when Silva gasped. His lips sought the column of her throat to leave a trail of hot, open-mouth kisses in his wake. "That didn't take long at all, sweetheart."

Smug bastard.

"I- S-shut up!" she laughed. The light and breathy sound twisted into a moan when she felt blunt teeth graze over a sensitive patch of skin between a set of ivory scales on the side of her neck. A slight shudder went through Silva as his breath was warm over her rapid pulse. "And who said that I was done kissing you, Hien? Who? Because it certainly wasn't- 0-ohhh..."

Her head spun when his mouth latched onto the spot and sucked. A sigh of his name escaped her lips. followed by a mewl when he sucked again and dragged his tongue over the blooming red mark. The beautiful sting faded into something dull. His low hum of satisfaction rang in her horns, and made heat pool low in her belly.

"Silly girl, I'm far from finished," Hien mouthed against her skin

As much as the horrors of life tried to bring them down, I really do love that Silva and Hien made it to the other side of that darkness and found joy in each other. They're so cute 💜

Ricmorn turned to look at her, his sky-blue eyes filled with so many emotions that it made her chest ache. "I know," he agreed. He flexed his fingers — the hand not holding a bowl — the white leather of his glove creaking as his palm closed into a tight fist. "I do. But what happened to you shouldn't have happened in the first place if they had been patient and answered our questions. No one should have put their hands on you. Period."

“No one is disagreeing with that fact,” she pointed out.

"You didn't even get an apology for their rashness!" he scoffed. His beige-scaled tail swished in the grass behind him as a low growl shook his chest. "And now we have to spend a week here to prove our worth for our victories in Bardam's and to fight in the Naadam after all that? I just… This was not how it was all supposed to go. You can’t fault me for being angry."

Angry wasn’t the word he would use to describe the emotion sizzling in his blood. That word was an understatement. He was pissed. Beyond fucking infuriated.

His aether buzzed just under the surface of his skin, not with healing magic, but with the rush of aero and crushing earth — the need to defend and protect. To make sure nothing or no one would hurt Silva. Or even dare to.

Part of Ricmorn understood he was overreacting. The danger had already passed, and his wife was safe at his side with a minor injury. And yet…

There was another part of him deep down that couldn’t quite settle. A place in his soul where peace and calm felt far away.

Something… dark. Lurking in the blackest of shadows with a grin of malice.

“Let me out…” a voice — he — whispered in the back of his mind. “Let me be the judge, jury, and executioner of who caused our beloved undue harm. Show everyone just how far you will go for her.”

No. He would not do that. He was better than that — stronger than that.

"You say no, but the seething rage of watching another man lay his hands on your precious mate says otherwise." The shadow laughed. "Let me free, and this will end quickly."

"Enough of this! Begone!" Ricmorn snarled in his mind, attempting to shove the voice back into the dark place it belonged.

A flash of sky-blue eyes — a gaze that matched his own — narrowed and stared him down. “Pity… What a fool you are. What would Silva think of you? Would she see this as another one of your failures, another time you couldn’t protect her?”

A while ago, I got the idea to let Esteem come out to play/cause some chaos with Ricmorn, considering he's a dark knight when he's not a bard or white mage/sage. So here's a little snippet I've been experimenting with to see if I'll roll with it, and uh... it's been VERY interesting 👀

They fell into a comfortable silence, staring at one another as the light of the late afternoon sun bathed them in a radiant golden glow. Warm and soft. Their hearts roared in their chests, beating as one as they exchanged gentle touches. It took Silva a few seconds to realize he was waiting for her permission.

Oh— gods and kami bless this man…

A soft plea left her as her long ivory tail loosely coiled around one of his legs. "[Please,]" she breathed. "[Please kiss me, my heart. Let me get a little lost in you — in us.]"

Quiet laughter lit up Hien's eyes as his mouth curved into a lopsided smile. "[Well, when you put it like that, Wildflower… Gladly.]"

With one final graze of his thumb across her plum-colored freckles, his lips covered her plush ones in a slow, sweet kiss. Again, and again. Such tender kisses filled Silva's belly with butterflies. Hien pulled back for a moment, a wordless check-in before she shook her head and pulled his mouth down to hers again, wanting more. And he dared to flash a grin at her. A soft sigh left Silva as he coaxed her into another one, and the world around them faded into the background. Perfect — nothing else outside this room mattered. Their mouths smoothly melded together as they were in no rush, both wanting to savor the moment. Quiet hums of contentment left them as they continued with the pace for a few minutes longer until Hien's hand returned to her waist, pulling her closer. The sensation of his fingertips digging into her exposed skin and sensitive scales made Silva gasp sharply against his mouth.

Sparks of pleasure raced up her spine. "Hien—"

Fuck.

Hien, fearing that he had accidentally hurt her, started pulling away to ask if she was alright. "Silva, are you—" The sound of a low growl froze him in his tracks, followed by a tug on his long hair.

And the moan of surprise she pulled from his throat filled the small space between them.

He shook his head, and the wicked blaze of desire in her sea-green eyes stole his breath. "I— no, but—"

"Then kiss me like the world ends tomorrow, Hien."

Kami— How was he supposed to respond to a demand that made his heart flutter in his chest?

The thought didn't matter — his beloved didn't give him a chance.

A groan escaped him when her mouth sealed itself back over his in a deeper, more fervent kiss — one that he was more than happy to return once his mind caught up. It soon turned into a clash of mouths and playful nips of teeth and blunt fangs. A contest to see who could lead this intimate dance. Silva held her own for a handful of kisses, stealing his bottom lip to toy and tugging on his jet-black hair again, only for him to return the favor. His fingers in her short purple and magenta waves tightened in response. He sucked her lip into his mouth, worrying the soft flesh until she moaned, panting against his mouth. A weak whimper rumbled in her throat when Hien surprised her with a growl and tilted her head to kiss her more thoroughly, gaining control again.

Their kissing rapidly grew into something hot and carnal, and— Gods, she loved it. The sound of their ragged breathing, her pleased noises, and his happy hums filled the air between them.

And when Silva thought kissing him like this couldn't get any better, he slowed down just enough to drag his tongue along the seam of her lips — a silent request. She answered without a second thought. The airy "yes" leaving her lips was muffled when Hien surged forward with renewed vigor, groaning and licking at her lips once more before slipping past her slightly parted lips. Madness yet perfection. No, that was when his tongue found hers to tangle with, slick and hot as he held her close. She whined, feeling him smirk against her mouth as he swallowed all the little sounds she made for him.

"No. I didn't say stop, did I?" she teased. He shook his head, and the wicked blaze of desire in her sea-green eyes stole his breath. "I— no, but—" "Then kiss me like the world ends tomorrow, Hien." Kami— How was he supposed to respond to a demand that made his heart flutter in his chest?

Another sneak peek from my rewrite of "Scars and Sunshine." Just a little scene of Silva and Hien kissing that gets a little more handsy as emotions happen~

She carefully cracked the door open wide enough to slip out. Her steps were light and quiet as she crossed the large main room, the hum of magic from the massive aetheryte washing over her until she reached the source of all the noise. Silva peeked around the stone wall, curious eyes taking everything in.

Gosetsu had rejoined the table, taking his original seat between Hien and Lyse, and Yugiri must have tagged along with him from wherever she had wandered off to. (It didn't surprise Silva to see her fellow Auri woman leaning against the wall instead of sitting down, either.) Kisan stood between Ricmorn and Hien, the two Auri men messing with their instruments. Even from this distance, she could see the young lord’s curious expression as he watched her husband strum a few different chords on his lute. Something that made a smile tug at her lips. A few of the House’s guards who were free from their duties for the evening and her uncle’s men who returned with him also lingered, no doubt curious about what was happening.

So much support… from those close to her and strangers alike. She couldn’t believe it.

Oh, her heart…

“Well… here goes nothing, I suppose,” Silva mumbled, lightly tapping her fingers against the cool stone wall. Now. Before her courage decided to vanish.

With one last deep breath, the young dancer steeled herself for her unlikely audience.

Silva had nothing to lose here. The chest alone was worth its weight in gold, and having it back in her hands meant the world. Whatever was inside would only add to it. She had everything to gain.

"Okay…" she whispered, her fingertips curling around the wooden edges of the lid. A shaky exhale left her before she briefly gnawed on her bottom lip. "Okay, okay, okay…"

Here goes nothing, Silva thought to herself.

Blood roared in her ivory horns as she counted to ten in her head. One, two, three… four… The old hinges creaked as Silva slowly lifted the top off, carefully letting it fall back, so it didn't scrape against the floor. Five, six, seven… Breathe. And only then, when she reached the daunting final number in her mind, did she drop her eyes to the exposed interior and items held within rich red silk. One of her hands flew to cover her mouth, a sob bubbling up from her chest. The other rested over her heart.

"Oh…"

Nothing could have prepared her for this. Nothing.

The world around her came to a halt, holding its breath with her.

"I… I don't think I'm entirely ready to have sex with you just yet," she said truthfully. Not that she hadn’t thought about it — fantasized about it. Gods, and all the sensual dreams she'd had of them together were an embarrassing amount to admit. How they never failed to leave her wet and wanting when she woke up. Silently praying she didn't just mess up whatever was happening between them, she continued with her thought. "B-but…"

"But?" he gently prodded, his nose brushing against hers.

Her thumb stroked along his warm, flushed skin. The tamed hunger swirling in his darkened eyes only added to the fire steadily growing in her from the moment his body covered hers. She took a steadying breath. "But what I do want is for you to kiss me until I'm breathless. I want you to touch me and listen to me sigh your name as I let myself get lost in you for a little while," she whispered against his lips. "To show my desire for you in other ways, Hien. If that's not asking too much."

Silva grinned when she heard his breath hitch, and the hand busily tangled in her hair tightened its hold. Oh, that's… Yes— fuck. His reaction made her giddy. It made blood rush to her head and burn in her veins.

But her lungs forgot how to work when he held her gaze. The molten love and desire she found in his eyes deepened, pinning her to the plush bed beneath them. Good. There was nowhere else she wanted to be.

Perhaps she wasn't asking for too much after all.

"Is that what you want?" His voice was low as he questioned her. Steady but a little rough around the edges. Silva found it maddening — and she knew it was exactly what he wanted. "Is that what you're craving with me? Right now? Tell me, Silva."

A demand that was gentle but left her squeezing her thighs together without thinking.

"[It is, yes,]" she answered, the words leaving her in Doman. "[I do. Can you do that for me, my heart? Please?]"

I trust you. My heart, mind, body, and soul are yours to take and hold. I know I'm safe in your hands. Those were the words she didn't say aloud, but they lingered in the air, and her lover understood.

"[Sweet darling…]" Hien returned her grin with one of his own and gave a brief peck to her lips, excitement and need coursing through him to please his beloved Raen. "[I certainly can, Wildflower. I would love nothing more than to answer your wish,]" he vowed, voice thick with emotion. "[To see and feel your desire in a way that's comfortable for you.]"

The breath Silva was holding left her in a soft whoosh. "[You're not upset about us not having sex, then?]"

Hien couldn't believe what he heard, and his reply to her worries was instant.

"[Kami above— no!]" he answered, shaking his head. "[No, not at all. I could never be upset about something like that, nor would I ever want you to force consent. That's no fun for either of us. Besides, I'm sure Ricmorn would kill me if I even dared to push you outside your comfort zone. Sex will happen when the time is right. Until then, I'm happy with whatever you're comfortable with at your pace. Do you understand?]" Hien waited for her to nod before pressing his forehead to hers. His heart thundered in his chest when Silva relaxed under him, whatever worry lingering within her vanishing. "[Good. We will go slow, okay? Don't be afraid to tell me to stop at any point if you feel uncomfortable or if I push you too far past the boundary you set. I only want you to feel pleasure and nothing else.]"

"They are beautiful, [Wildflower.] So beautiful. Not because they are a part of you, but also because of the meaning behind why you have them in the first place — love. There's no need to feel any shame about your scars whatsoever," Hien told her, his voice warm and comforting. He watched her eyes widen, a stuttered gasp leaving her. His thumb stroked against her cheek as his other hand ran feather-light touches along one of her scars. “If anything, I think you should be proud of them and yourself. The strength and courage it took for you to throw yourself in harm's way to save someone you loved and could not be without, to nearly sacrifice yourself because you believed it was the right thing. It's the most selfless thing you could ever do for another person. It is so inspiring, Silva.”

Oh… Oh, gods— How did he always know what words to say to make her pause and reflect? To get her another perspective?

And then Hien did something that melted her heart.

Silva felt his body shift again, and something warm brushed against the topmost scar. His mouth— he was kissing her healed wounds. Again and again, soft. Gentle enough not to startle her, but enough to have her softly gasping as he left a trail of sweet kisses down the old, smooth-jagged lines. And he didn't stop there, no. Hien did it with each of the four large slash marks on her upper shoulders and back, dusting love to her skin.

Tears gathered in Silva's eyes, beyond touched. “I…” she whispered, her voice wavering with emotion as she took in his thoughtful words. “I’ve never looked at it that way before.” It was honestly one of the sweetest, most caring things the young lord had ever said to her, and she was genuinely awestruck. A light laugh left her as he wiped away a few stray tears that escaped, saying, “I won’t lie, I actually do not know how to respond to that. I just…”

What she felt couldn't be described with words.

Ricmorn turned to look at Silva when she started humming a song, mindful of not sloshing the water over the sides of the tub and creating a mess. (Well— more than what he was about to cause with his shedding scales, at least.) He couldn't help but chuckle at the sight. She had changed out of her usual dancer gear into clothes she didn't mind getting wet, an old tank top and cotton shorts she used when sleeping. Her arms were full of supplies, overflowing with them, he would argue. Clean washcloths, a wooden bucket, several blunt tools, a bottle of special oil, and balm for new scales. Everything an Au Ra needed to help remove old scales and protect new ones. And…

Wait a second. Did she have two more bottles carefully wrapped up by her long tail? Now that was interesting… She never failed to surprise him with how she multitasked in times like these.

He thought that it was adorable. And he knew a certain young lord would believe the same if he were here with them.

Silva, not realizing her husband was watching, gingerly set everything down, even using her tail to place items, and took what was needed now. While setting the rest of the products in order of use, she continued humming, dancing slightly to the melody. Lost in her own little world. It wasn't until she sat down on the edge of the stone bathtub that her ivory horns heard Ricmorn clear his throat in an attempt to gain her attention. She looked up and caught him staring at her, his lips curled into a smirk.

"Well, hello there, darling."

Her humming stopped abruptly, warmth flooding her face.

"O-oh…"

"It's nice to see that someone's in a good mood," he remarked, amusement shimmering in his sky-blue eyes. His teasing remark earned him a squeak. And that pretty lilac blush staining her cheeks deepened when he chuckled. "To think you would pick one of my songs to hum as you worked. How sweet. You didn't have to stop, Silv."

"Heavens—" she rasped.

Ricmorn couldn't help snorting. "Heaven is where I'll be once I'm rid of these old scales."

Silva shook her head. This man— "You know you could get there quicker if you stop trying to fluster me," she sighed. But there was a smile on her lips.

"True…" he hummed, leaning over the edge of the tub. Ricmorn reached up to cup her warm cheek as she bent over to meet him halfway, brushing his thumb against the plum freckles decorating her light blue-gray skin. "It's fun to fluster you, though. How you get all shy and blush, how you become all jittery and fidget with your rings or the courtship bracelet I made you…" She never failed to let her guard down, either in these moments. Her true self peeked through. Free and without burden. "Always has been fun, always will be," he murmured as his mouth kissed her other cheek.

"Sweet man…" she whispered, nuzzling her horn against his beige horn, a happy rumble shaking her chest.

A gesture of love — of a bond that was soul deep, wrapped in gold and red threads.

"Silva."

"Hm?"

"I… I hope you know that you're always welcome to talk to me about anything when you're in my company," he promised. Against Hien's better judgement, he reached for her hand, lacing his fingers through hers and squeezing tightly. A soft gasp escaped Silva as he did. "That the gesture you extend to me is also extended to you at any time. You'll always be safe here with me."

Some would think him a fool to offer her that vow — one he'd told her time and time again already when it was brought up — but he meant it.

He really did, even if it might kill him one day.

Hien waited for her to pull away when she froze, waited to see if she would scold him for his brashness. Blood roared in his ears as his heart hammered against his ribs as he waited, holding his breath as they stared at one another in silence. But she did neither of those things.

No, she offered him the sweetest smile that had the power to light the shadows in his heart and soul, and returned the squeeze.

"I— Thank you, Hien. I'll remember that," Silva told him, brushing her thumb against his. "I will."

It was his turn to gasp, bright sparks of levin dancing along his skin when she gripped his palm, his lips curving into a crooked grin. "Good."

Together, the two Domans lay in the grassy field filled with colorful wildflowers swaying in the warm breeze, basking in the sun and clear skies. They didn't exchange anymore words. But they shared looks, heartfelt smiles, soft laughter at untold jokes, all while holding hands and blushing.

There was no pain here, only peace and a comfort he hadn't felt in a long time. And he selfishly took it and held it close.

If this were the only dream Hien had of Silva after tonight, he was glad it was something like this.
