Did you expect going in that Adult might end in such a way that the characters would have to be punished for taking #gamer actions in a #sliceoflife story? Did you have any ideas going in about where things might end up otherwise? I really enjoyed the vibe of Adult. It was interesting that it all ended up culminating in an attempt to turn it into a "killing the big bad" style campaign despite it all, and I really enjoyed how you handled that in the end. I guess I'm just interested in your Adult thoughts. I suspected that the players might retreat to heroic violence at some point, yes. That is what the Eidolon system encourages, and it's what players are used to. It was already my goal in Oyster to move away from those tendencies, but while I did prove that the Crash System could be used for surgery, I did not stop the team of doctors from beating up the bad guy. Going into the Adult finale, I consciously avoided planning any ending, because I think my previous campaign finales were too restricted by my plans. I wanted to let the cards guide the story, and I was pleasantly surprised that all the positive cards got spent on the violence so that the negative cards would the only ones left for the aftermath of the violence. However, it was my plan for the Adult finale to deflate DG's romantic ideas about heroic violence as much as possible. I hoped I could get her to take another path, or failing that, to bring her into conflict with Kierra, or, failing that, to make the execution as unsatisfying as possible (which is also the route I took with Oyster).
My main goal with Adult was to make the NPCs friendly but proactively inconvenient to the PCs, so that the PCs could not forget or ignore their relationships with them. I think Andy and Natalie were the most successful examples of this. Macy and Sarah were less successful; they're a little too mechanical to feel like real people, and they mostly acted on DG rather than both on DG and Kierra. Ultimately, Andy is the only one who had a major influence in the finale, even more than the passive Tights, who were also a little too functional to make the players hesitate to attack them. Though I guess Mr. Tight got to that point right at the end. I mentioned before that I'm glad the aftermath was filled with negative cards, but I do wish a negative or neutral had been played for one of the attacks on the Tights. I would never make them defend themselves, but they would have taken uglier hits and taken more to go down.
